I know just how worrying a positive fit test can be but it doesn't necessarily mean it's always caused by something very serious as I discovered. I had a positive result last July, was referred to the hospital by my GP on a 2 week fast track appointment due to my age and other symptoms, and a colonoscopy was arranged. This showed my problem was diverticulosis and the consultant said this was the cause of the blood in my fit test. He also said internal haemorroids were a common cause and that, because the fit tests were so sensitive at picking up minute traces of blood, more people were being referred to them. Hope this helps.

Good advice from patient 49 doesn't stop us worrying I know but it helps a little.

Have you had any further tests, I have been told mines positive this morning, trying not to freak out, much.

If you have piles it can be that, what reason did they get it done

I don't actually know because the receptionist said she couldn't see the exact results just that it was positive, I think probably quite high as not a weak positive.

I'm booked in next week for a telephone consultation with the radiologist and organising a CT scan the week after, I'm trying to stay positive ha ha

If you have had piles even those you haven't noticed that will probably be the reason as it only has to be tiny amounts

What type of CT scan are you having?

It's a virtual colonoscopy

Have you had your tests now? How did it go for you?

Ive had IBS for 31 years but recently did a FIT test that was positive with a number of 18 which is low.

They want me to have a colonoscopy but feel its probably a waste of time because like some one else wrote it can be simply down to haemorroids, fissure or something else not sinister.

Do you know your test result figure?

Hi again ☺ no matter what you think it could be you don't know 100% that it's not something else so the fact you're GP is putting your best interest to the fore.

Better to check to be sure

Thought I'd update and say I had the colonoscopy on Wednesday and they said it all looked normal.

So, no idea whats causing my issues - back to square one again.

Hi I had a camera Monday, it showed my UC has extended further and is quite active at the moment, I had 10 biopsies and have to wait for the results of them but he said he could not see any thing sinister visually

I found out my fit test was 74 and 10 is normal

Glad to hear your camera was normal, maybe you should do another fit test to see if you are still positive after colonoscopy

I had a low postive fit test and had colonoscopy and had 5 polps removed aĺl benign. Best to get it checked out. Its not as bad as it sounds and was quite interesting looking at the screen
