York test

Hi I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice.

I did a York laboratories blood test and the result came back positive to intolerances and if I want to now find out which food and drink I'm intolerant to I need to pay £274 is it worth doing this? I don't want to waste my money.

Thanks.

I would say no it's a waste of your money. Tests like this were covered on Rip off Britain last year ans all the tests bought told users that they were intolerant to something even though they weren't. See your gp and get the tests done properly and for free, don't waste anymore cash.

Hi Janet,

I also would tend to agree with Cubbylover, don't waste your money see your doctor.

I agree with the others. These tests can be very unreliable & vary results from day to day etc. Don't waste your money. See your GP who will most likely tell you that the best way to check for intolerances is to go on an exclusion diet! Good luck.

Hi I had tests with Cambridge Nutritional Sciences similar costs I found it useful. NHS were not interested in giving me tests on anything other than the basics to diagnose IBS. After that they didn't care too much. Your choice x

You can do your own intolerance tests by leaving one food group, like dairy, out of your diet for 2/3 weeks keeping a food and symptom diary to monitor any changes there might be

You can but it a lengthy process. Most people triggers are wheat gluten and dairy. So go soya milk, no bread or pastas aless the pasta is gluten free and check all gluten free stuff to make sure no yeast extract in anything! This is what worked for me. There the main food intolerances as ur body finds it hard to digest these foods

A complete waste of money. I have a friend who trained as a Nutritionist and whilst she was training she, along with others, looked at the York Test and said that there was no substance at all behind their claims. The only way to see if something doesn't agree with you is to eliminate it i.e. I know that raw carrots and onions, sweetcorn are foods I cannot go near and I also have problems if I eat a significant amount of broccoli or cauliflower i.e. every day. I am also looking at dairy now.

Best of luck.
