I wrote a post a few minutes ago and I don’t think it posted. My name is Heather and I’m 31. I have not been diagnosed with IBS but I’m looking for some insight to see if it could possibly be what’s been going on with me. For about a week I have experienced abdominal pain after meals. This has been consistent and lasts for hours. In the beginning my stool was hard and “pellet” like. Now I am having several water stools per day. My abdominal pain is in the upper to mid abdomen and sometimes lower. I was experiencing heartburn but I have resolved that with an antacid. Does this sound like what you all experience with IBS? I have an appointment made with a doctor but it’s a week away. Any insight would be great!

IBS?
Have you had tests to confirm it's ibs? "" it could be a number of things.... I resolved mine i hope... Occasionally gets it while on monthly...
This sounds like the same symptoms I experienced when diagnosed with IBS, and my gastroenterologist explained that they were caused by spasms in the colon. In my case the cause was an adverse reaction to red wine and possibly stress at work, but there are probably many other factors involved.
It could be IBS but you need a formal diagnosis prior to proceeding otherwise you could end up trying to treat the wrong thing. In the UK there is a set protocol for diagnosing IBS which includes both blood and stool tests:

There are a number of things that they have to eliminate first. Once you get a formal diagnosis there is much that can be done to help your symptoms. You can check back in here for help. Good luck.
Hi Heather, I agree with the others that you need a proper diagnosis but in the meantime I just thought I would give you my thoughts on your post. You mention this started with abdominal pains about a week ago which appears to sound like constipation. Then you say that you had heartburn and resolved it with antacids. I think the constipation was giving you the heartburn but maybe you are going over the top with the antacids and that is what's giving you the diarrhoea. Just a thought!
Hi my ibs is all in the right hand side. Middle to upper. What side is yours?
Hey Heather,
Sorry to hear that you're through this. I'd definitely get tested for IBS but whatever the result, something is clearly wrong. I would consider trying getting your food profile, to see whether you can manage the foods your body is trying to process.
