Water water water!!

Water water water, been drinking water..for constipation. I have found all it does is make me go to urinate the intestines does not absorb it it just passes through as urine and I've been walking an hour and a half a day and I'm active so what gives? What do you do next? By the way. I am on a liquid mush diet now with prunes smoothies with almond milk I don't know where to turn nothing seems to be working and I'm miserable I feel so sad for everyone that has to suffer with this terrible illness.

:-(

Try eating kiwis. I hate prunes and was, like you, getting nowhere with water, so I tried Kiwis, now twice every three days, almost perfect.

Hi,

Have you tried probiotics? They are an essential part of my supplement routine. I also take digestive enzymes.

How are your stress levels? When i'm experiencing stressed (either acute or chronic), my digestion goes on a holiday and things just shut down. During these times, it wouldn't matter what i ate or drank because the real issue is stress.

And can i say, I feel for you too. This is indeed a horrible condition and in my experience, the more i struggle with it, the worse it gets.

Sending you hope. I'm happy to keep chatting on here - you're not alone Autumn822.

Hello thank you for your reply I have taken the Align probiotic. It worked for about 2 weeks and then it's just like I wasn't taking anything I have also taken digestive enzymes I got from the health food store worked for a while then just like overnight completely stopped working. And they were expensive. As of recent I have started taking the align again. This week I have taken Smooth Move tea for two nights along with Colace nothing I've also taken a full 60 mL of milk of magnesia which usually works nothing. I have used suppositories which amounts to very little it's not even worth mentioning.

Sticking to primarily a mushy soft liquid diet. I just took another dose or drank another cup of the Smooth Move tea praying for some results. I have used Epsom salts in the past sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. And it really just makes me sick. When it did work it was rough.!! My stress primarily comes from dealing with IBS and other health issues. I had about a month where I went to the bathroom like a normal person wow I felt so good then right back to the same old issues. My dad had IBS with constipation and I have the exact same thing I never have had much of a problem with diarrhea it's always constipation.

Yeah right, this condition is stressful, I agree. That's one of the catch 22 issues with it. Not sure what else to say other than I hope things get better for you soon. I am also having a flare up at the moment. Sending my best wishes.

Oh dear I know what you mean with the water, I tried that but doesn’t work. I’ve run out of prunes......I thought my diet was ok, had porridge for breakfast, broccoli, beans, I don’t want to take laxatives because I tried one last week and had terrible diarrhoea and couldn’t leave the house! IBS is so unpredictable & changeable but there are some helpful suggestions on this site, I may try the kiwis!

Best wishes to you, wish I had a magic solution.

Yes it would be nice if there was a magic solution to this. And definitely you don't want to read what's on the internet because that will terrify you.

😞

Hi DizzyDoll36,

Have you tried the low FODMAP diet? Broccoli and beans aren't FODMAP friendly - not that I'm saying the FODMAP diet is the answer but it certainly helps. I like broc & beans (chickpeas in particular) but when my gut is in a tangle, FODMAPs certainly seem to make it worse. Just thought I'd mention that.

I'm going to buy some kiwis today - the golden ones taste like Champagne to me :)

Try aloe vera tablets and/or juice x

You need to eat nuts, as they don’t digest and they help with the constipation so much. Eat a quarter of a cup twice a day and soon the blockage will go away.

I don’t regularly have constipation, but when I have had a problem, I’ve found Fybogel good at ‘smoothing things out’. After having my gall bladder removed, I was prescribed Lactulose as a mild laxative and it seemed to work well. I believe both are available without prescription - Fybogel certainly is.

I hope things improve for you.

I agree about water, i never find it works! Movicol sachets usually works but takes a day or two - not immediate. Sometimes i drink aloe vera drink with pulp and that can help. I saw a post saying coca cola works, so might give that a go!

Hi, have you tried fybogel I suggest the lemon flavour and not the orange which made me gag. The extra water you've been drinking should make the fybogel work well .

IBS can drive you mad, first c then d, then c with d, then all goes blissfully well for a few days ... one fruit I've found effective with constipation is papaya/pawpaw, as it contains an enzyme called papain which aids digestion. A slice a day sorts me out, then stop, or eat every few days as it can be too much of a 'good thing'!

When I had constipation I used to soak golden Linseeds in water, about I tablespoon to 1/2 to whole mug of water. Leave for about 1/2 hour then drink, consistency is like wallpaper paste. Mske sure you drink some extra water with it.

Me too. I am convinced it's a stress/fear issue primarily and the more you focus on it it the worse it gets. You can't 'digest' anymore! My muscles are very weak due to age and weight loss and I am facing homelessness through no fault eviction so I could be hanging on to what I've got left if you see what I mean. Answer is trying to get really calm and relaxed to let go of all the 'crap' but easier said than done and all GP's seem to do is cause more stress.

Thank you everyone for your wonderful responses I am saving this page as I am going to try all of the above mentioned..each time I have to deal with this!! Thank you so much for your ideas and suggestions!!!
