Ok that test is a marker for inflammation levels for IBD/IBS if they sent you to the hospital twice and if you are happy with the diagnosis you diet needs to be looked at and perhaps Mebeverine time release capsules for the cramps (not OTC). I had a calprotectin test which was within normal limits but still had a colonoscopy. Good Luck!
thanks for advice they have offered me a colonospy in 8 weeks but both doctors have said they dont think they will find anything where can i buy mebeverine time release capsules are the over the counter or prescription many thanks
It's just IBS- what a comment. Have you had a Calprotectin test?
If it is JUST IBS, then I would suggest the following: Stop drinking all fizzy drinks, avoid alcohol, do not eat peanuts, sweetcorn,Brussel sprouts, baked beans or any known agitators. Always chew small mouthful of food really well before swallowing.
Once you get a formal diagnosis after the colonoscopy, you should have a follow up appointment with the gastroenterologist - if they don't offer you an appointment because they say 'everything is clear, you just have IBS', insist on that follow up appointment so you can get some advice on its management based on your specific symptoms which might be specific medication etc. and also ask to be referred to a dietician so you can be walked through how to do the low fodmap diet. If your symptoms are not under control after all of this, insist on a further follow up appointment with the gastroenterologist. I'm suffering from severe night time pain in my intestines and my NHS gastroenterologist has asked me to try certain things and has made a note that I need another appointment to find out how things turned out. You shouldn't be getting a diagnosis and then be left to get on with it. If you do get a formal diagnosis of IBS, you have followed the low fodmap diet with a dietician, the Monash University fodmap app and the Kings College apps are really useful in telling you what you can eat and in what quantities - see these links:
I also recently joined theibsnetwork.org - there is a £24 annual fee. Since I am not able to work I'd put off joining for some time and thought is might just be pages of information that I already know, but is much more than that. One of the great things is that you have access to a host of experts in the field and they respond to your queries in a reasonable time frame. Good luck!
