If your BM is normally d, and watery, then you have nothing to fear. The biggest or at least bigger worry is if there is a change in your habits from d to c or c to d.

I was told for years I had IBS but I got the point that no matter what I ate it went through me - and yet no weight loss! I finally got tested and diagnosed with bile acid malabsorption (bam for short) and now on binder medication. There are so many other bowel conditions like this and sibo, leaky gut. I kept a diary of what I ate, times, bowel moments. Dr sent me to upper GI clinic as he thought maybe it was gallbladder, but they referred me to gastro who knew straight away it was BAM. Had a sehcat scan and it was confirmed. I also had a colonoscopy to check nothing else was going on and luckily that was clear.

I've never had weight loss related to my gut problems either! If we're going to suffer with this awful problem, at least we could lose weight, if needed, huh? ;) I've even had a doctor tell me "You can't have Crohn's or colitis, you're fat!" And problem is, I didn't get fat until after I started taking the steroids HE prescribed! Aaargghhh!

Ditto was told it was what I ate because I also have a fatty liver and hyperlipidaemia. Are you on fb at all? There is a good group there. Everyone will tell you that we’ve all put in weight. Because of the malabsorption they body thinks it’s being starved and holds onto every calorie. My consultant said it’s he most misdiagnosed thing. Even a nutritionist I saw said well if everything is going through you how are you not losing weight. It doesn’t work like that. Please start a diary of what you’re eating, times, toilet habits and then insist on being referred. Also look at bad-uk.org website. People will this are also deficient in lots of vitamins. When my hair was thinning they said it was my age (I’m 51 now) and I said I was always tired. Told was menopause even though I’m regular as clockwork. I was deficient in ferritin, folate, potassium, B12 and D so now I’m tablets, sprays and injections for them.

That's all very interesting and very informative, thank you!

I've been seeing doctors for this whatever it is for 20+ years now, have heard almost every excuse and blamed on being overweight. I remind them I didn't gain weight till AFTER I started seeing them, but they ignore it. But steroids are notorious for causing weight gain, so not sure how they can ignore it.

I have so many of your symptoms, I'm very interested in your story and eager to read updates!

Be well...😀

Yes I’ve had this for over 20 years and only recently diagnosed. Good luck. If you’re on Facebook there is a good group with lots of people for advice and also bad-uk.org. All of us have gained weight cos our body thinks it’s starving as ta not absorbing vitamins so it hangs in to everything. Even a nutritionist said - well you will lose weight eventually if everything goes through you - and I said yeah if I don’t eat anything so I’ll die anyway! So frustrating.
