I have a major problem with incomplete evacuation - need to go to the loo many times a day and usually feel that something remains in the rectum. I`ve tried all the diets and pretty much all of the laxatives but the GP has suggested trying docusate again at a higher dose than I did before. I think her intention is that I should keep on taking it if it helps, but I`m concerned that the information leaflet says it should only be taken short term. Just wondering what anyone else has been advised?

I have been on Docusate for 2 years now, as I am also taking Morphine and other highly rated analgesia for other problems. I think as long as you keep reminding your GP/GI team you are still on Docusate and they do the necessary blood checks, it is alright.
