Fodmap and food diaries

Just wanted to follow up after all the amazing responses to my post the other week. Amazing to get so much support and hear about people finding through and reducing their symptoms. Thanks everyone!

A friend connected me to a mutual contact who has also been doing fodmap the last year - with amazing results. Her input was this, learning the food groups - thats not so hard - but adhering to it to the point you have the confidence to introduce. That is another thing.

She swears by a paper food diary, but she is a stay at home Mum (lucky her!). The rest of us are on the go with work. So I looked for an IBS centric food diary - there is one called Bowelle but that does not work on my phone. I searched a bit more and found and downloaded the Tummi app for my android phone yesterday. It looks pretty good, it even lets me enter meals via google assistant, now I just need to get disclipined and log my meals and any flare-ups.

Anyone got any top tips on fodmap adherence and ways to manage that all important food diary?

Thank you so much for the information. I'm going to have to try the app as I have an android phone as well.

I think IBS diaries in general are a good thing.

I kept daily notes on my Mac and iPhone about my symptoms - sleep, bowel movements and any significant effects of particular foods. I used the free version of Evernote but any note taker will do. It also help me review progress when I was discussing my condone with my medical specialists.

I still train hard in the gym...trying to get back all the muscle I lost with five years of inactivity during the darkest times of SIBO and IBS. As an ex-body builder I know the importance of food but in general food diaries have found to help in so many ways from weight loss to muscle gain...and to IBS symptoms!

I use the paid version of Cronometer which is principally a comprehensive nutrition recording system but it would work for many different scenarios. It does require time and effort to use but it has help me greatly. Firstly losing the 5 extra kilos of body fat I had attained and then the replacement with several kilos of muscle...ok the app needed my sweat in the gym to help complete the latter...but it shows the power of diaries 💪

We have a Wellness Diary for people with IBS. It's a 12-week diary that allows you to record what you have eaten, how you are feeling so that you can then identify triggers to your IBS. It's available here theibsnetwork.org/shop/supp...
