Ditto Monash. Their website is handy too. There are links to the various app stores there. The app on iOS is £7.99 as a one-off charge. monashfodmap.com
Both use science and research to backup their advice. They are often copied by others.
Beware of following 'influencers' on YouTube or Instagram and the like. Many use unproven, even risky, techniques and often they are trying to sell a system or product which is useless, or worse.
Also, there is much good stuff on this website and many people (me included!) give advice based on their own experiences. However, IBS, and all its connotations, can be very specific to an individual so one persons triumph can be another's downfall! 🙂
You are quite correct but there is a growing UK section. I'm sorry I didn't mention it but its never been a problem for me as the majority of what I eat is fresh veg and fruit as a vegan. I do not eat processed food generally.
I might also add that there are many additives in junk and processed foods. As well as the high levels of simple sugars and dairy derivatives (lactose is a fodmap), but also Sulphites (a preservative which I still cannot cope with even now my IBS has cleared...its in most beers and wines!!) Many of the 'e' number are thought to be inflammatory to IBS suffers too.
Thought I should say thank you David, as I’ve bought the App you suggested and just trying to get myself sorted. My problem and I think many others don’t really understand the words Sulfites, etc etc, I do know preservatives lactose gluten and words like that are best to stay away from.
Anyway the good thing about this App is you can scan foods, so I’m off for a trip to the supermarket to start scanning.🙄
I’m Quite happy with nerds, where would we be without them,so don’t bring yourself down David.
Well I went shopping and I’m still a bit confused, but I will work it out. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Neither was I,I’m 76 yrs old,and yes a little wiser in some ways, but sorting a diet out to stop this dam pain,is proving to be a bit of a task.
The trouble with the written word Breathless1943 is it only accounts for 5-10% of the conversation...unfortunately you couldn't see, or hear me laughing loudly as I described myself as a nerd! 🤓
I should take a leaf out of your 76 year old book and use more emoji's...I am just a child at 62!! 😄 🤣
😂😂There you go,you don’t have to be a youngster to laugh. And actually I think we older generation,(if you don’t mind me saying) laugh more than the youth of today, also helps with the pain.🙄.👍
My dietician recommended the kings college app, it’s useful when you are shopping and can scan barcodes to check whether an item is suitable. It’s amazing how many what you would think are”safe” foods aren’t due to added flavourings etc.
The Kings college app sounded good but did now work on my phone. I don't eat readymeals and so barcodes are not my go to for information. I did find the Tummi fodmap app was very useful. I think it has the same Kings College data on which foods are deemed high fodmap.
I also do not eat ready meals. But where there is no bar code you can just write in what you want and it will tell you most times if it’s right for you.
They also recommend you have the Maestro App,you can then put in any particular intolerance or allergies you have,I’ve found that one to be very good. They will also answer questions you have.
