So if you've been following posts then this is an update🙈 I went and spoke to a different doctor on Friday and he actually listened and said how bad it was and that going to the toilet 14 times a day and sometimes until its running clear isn't normal, so been put on the urgent list for colonoscopy, and was given low dosage anti depressant to help with my anxiety side of it as since I got the chronic diarrhoea my anxiety is at an all time high but so far I'm still having the diarrhoea but hoping to get back to normal soon, so frustrating as been trying to get benefits to help me as I'm too ill to work and so far been giving nothing, this isn't helping the situation either I'm so worried about everything like even my dad is mad at me now

Welchol, Colestipol, or Questran will stop diarrhea in it's tracks. I take 4 tablets a day of Colestipol and I have my life back....
I still don't understand why they haven't given me anything like that, they seem to think it's to do with my mind, so I'm tracking it to see if it gets any better
I don't understand why more doctors are not "up" on this medication!! They make you go through all these stupid tests (which my doctor did not do to me). I had to research this on my own...my doctor didn't tell me about it...I told him about it and he allowed me to try it....just tell him you want to try any of those 3...you'll be amazed...
Some reasons for lack of prescription:
1. Your GP is not a specialist and doesn't know everything, just generic more common ailment treatments
2. Expensive/ unavailable on the NHS
3. Clashes with any current meds you are taking
4. Has some pretty strong side effects its best to avoid.
P.s. I'm not a dr. this is just what helped me. good luck.
First: Make sure that u are drinking plenty of water.
second: If your in to herbal meds n stuff:
Peppermint tea for cramps, ginger tea for wind, isapgol for diarrhea/ constipation, 1 banana/ 2 bananas for diarrhea/ constipation respectively,
And... for someone who had to drop out of uni due to constant visits to the toilet... tea from the boiling of 2 cups of water containing 2 cloves, 1 green cardamom pod, a pinch of saunf and a small cinnamon stick (boiled until only 1 cup left). Drink warm. (you might want to add honey/ swallow quickly if ur not into such stuff).
I was unable to eat/ drink anything until my mum made me this. Life saver bless her!
Good luck.
P.s. Don't eat cucumbers... really not good for someone with diarrhea. Dry toast works ok though.
I'm going to say it's reason 1 or 2 to be honest as when I first visited the doctor I was on mebeverine and then told to come off that so for a while I was taking nothing so it has nothing to clash with, they gave me tablets that where working but I had to come off due to side effects, I cannot stand bananas, I'm very sensitive to taste, although something to hell with wind is useful thanks as I've been suffering bad with that, I've had the peppermint and it didn't work it just made everything taste of mint
Sorry hun, I think one of us has misread each other, ...scroll up and see. Peppermint is for cramps, ginger is for wind. Get the isapgol, ...one spoon every two days (no more) really helped me.
And if you can make that tea recipe I posted and swallow it holding your nose (smell has a huge effect on taste intensity), it should help.
If the taste sticks in your mouth too much, eat a piece of dry toast, or suck on a boiled sweet to get the taste out.
Good luck!
Hi Emsky, you can buy imodium at the chemist. It works very well and very quickly at stopping diareah. Don’t understand why your GP hasn’t given you imodium. Even though it’s not yet established that your problem is IBS, your symptoms are so bad, I would have thought it was worth trying buscopan to help prevent bowel spasm, pending tests. Plus peppermint oil pills help with wind. Also diareah can be self-perpetuating because the flora in the gut are messed up. So take probiotics - I find kefir fermented milk is a good probiotic. Supermarkets sell it along with yoghurts. But start kefir slowly and gradually increase. More long term: learn mindful meditation. Best of luck with your symptoms!
I was on immodium for 3 months and it wasn't working, also already take buscopan and peppermint and been eating the yoghurts
Tips:
Dioralyte each time you have diarrhea (3weeks only I think is the limit - check with gp)
Small, frequent meals
If yoghurts help avoid acidic fruits (e.g. lemons/ oranges)
Did you try the tea I mentioned?
Exercise realeases wind.
Keep a food-symptom diary and work out what you need to avoid and alternatives to compensate so you don't lose out on flavour or nutrients.
