IBS combo flare-up causing hospital stay

Got combo IBS (it can be constipation or diarrhoea) that is heavily influenced by anxiety. Severe stomach pain on Friday ended up in a hospital visit on suspicion of appendix but all organs were fine on CT. Its good that all were fine but being in hospital over the weekend for nothing to be found makes me feel a bit fraud like and foolish. Normally flare ups last a day or so and sooth off with use of painkillers and IBS tablets but this time isn't budging. The pain had me limping and holding my side.

I wouldn't suggest anyone to ignore their pain particularly if worse, increasing or a new location (why I went to the doc)

This is a second time I've had extreme abdo pain leading to a hospital visit.

Any other severe sufferers?

Yes, I normally suffer with severe stomach pain, however my last admission was with no pain and the only symptom was no wind and me not feeling right. So please remember you know your own body, if it ain’t right, get it checked. ( Btw I ended up having a 10.5hour operation, followed by 7 days in ICU

Sorry, I seem to have taken over your post. What I was trying to say was:- If you don't feel right, then don't feel bad about going to A&E. Yes I'm recovering quite well thanks.

Hi there. Sorry to hear that. Hope you’re feeling better now. I’ve had two hospital admissions for suspected appendicitis (one resulted in a 4 day admission), and several GPs convinced I had a hiatus hernia and then gallstones before I finally got an IBS diagnosis. My flare ups can be incredibly acute and sometimes fairly short, (only a couple of weeks) although the last one I was pretty sick for a few months. I think GPs especially don’t get that someone can be that acutely sick from something like IBS and then assume that it must be something acute like appendicitis. But don’t feel stupid for seeking help, especially if your symptoms change, IBS flare ups can make you incredibly unwell. I’d rather have someone check me out for appendicitis than not. And it will pass! Although it never feels like it’s going to end when you’re in the middle of feeling that sick.

Don't feel bad about ending up in hospital. It happened to me too when I had sudden severe pelvic pain which I had never had before and did not realise was IBS. It is always best to get checked out just in case it is something else.

Thanks for the replies, turns out that I have some puffed up lymph nodes in the abdomen that they reckon could be from a bug! I had to back for a second scan as was still in pain :/ but least it's not gall stones, kidney stones or a dodgy appendix!
