Unfortunately, omeprazole is notable for making IBS symptoms worse. I find I can take it for a couple of weeks and then my bowels go completely haywire. You could ask your doctor for a different PPI which may suit you better.
Hello.Yes I had the same problem with omeprazole made IBS worse. I'm taking ranatadine but the omeprazole was better for hernia . You can't win .
When I took omeprazole it actually caused me to get SIBO which then gave me IBS symptoms. I saw a functional medicine practitioner and she said my gerd/ acid reflux etc was actually too little stomach acid - not too much! So when I went on omeprazole it was lowering already low stomach acid and let the baddies in. We're working now to make me produce more stomach acid at meal times. Hope this helps you! Good luck with your journey x
Oh wow. Always wanted to find out if I had too little acid as feel so unwell on PPIs. I'm in the UK. Can you get functional medicine practitioners here?
I was the same on omerprozole, I’m now on lansoprazole, 15 mg , and so much better.
