New to this forum and looking for advice. Over the last month I've had 3 instances where I've had diarrhoea dirctly after eating and in general my stomach has been really off particularly on a morning, seems to be either really loose or to the other end where im constipated. Dont recall having any 'normal' bowel movement 4 a good month or 2. Does this sound like IBS? Ive never had anything like this before, what could have brought it on? Im paranoid to eat anything at minute in case it brings on an episode which usually last a good hour or 2 of me feeling dreadful 😭

Always seek a formal diagnosis from your GP before assuming its IBS, IBS has similar symptoms to other bowel conditions but all are treated very differently theibsnetwork.org/have-i-go...

Hi Holiday 12,

My own view is that IBS is not a diagnosis but a description of symptoms. It is very important to see your GP because there are a whole range of conditions that could give you IBS type symptoms, some serious, so you need proper investigation and diagnosis. While you are waiting to see your GP have a go at using the Bristol Stool Scale to record your IBS symptoms:

Also keep a record of what you are eating and drinking, activity levels, and if and when you are having any sleep issues.

Please let us know how you get on.

Best wishes,

Ernest

Also tell your GP what happened before the start of these unusual bowel symptoms for you :

1 did u go on holiday somewhere abroad where you could have picked up a bug ? 2 did you try some new diet or food?

Fast transit of food after eating is not uncommon with IBS . I often get this after dinner .

Used to be the following morning after breakfast but as I have got older, had IBS for about 50 years, it often occurs much quicker now if something sparks off a flare up.
