Hey all just wondered if anyone else has had an op lately if uv noticed ur ibs has flared up afterwards?? They only checked I was peeing fine when i left hospital a week ago and since then iv only had a number2 3 times and each time iv had bad stomach cramps and had to rush. Last night was the worst i was left with terrible cramping for about an hour after going to the loo. I dont know if its just getting used to home food again or whether an anaesthetic affects you or what. Iv never had an op before xx

It's completely normal for your bowel to slow down after an op, it's the sedation that causes it. Make sure you keep on top of things, see your doc if you're in discomfort. After one of my ops I didn't have a bowel movement for 3 weeks & ended up back in hospital. Best practice states that any patient who has had an operation must have passed urine and had a bowel movement before they are discharged but unfortunately a shortage of beds means that in most cases they can't hang around waiting so as long as you can pass urine you are good to go.
