Hi, I have been on PPI's on and off for many years, sometimes I have noticed they cause me to be depressed- at least i think it's them as I haven't changed anything else. Recently I am taking one in the morning and one at night to help with GERD. I still have breathing issues at night and wake exhausted.
I want to wean off the PPI's, I am not sure they are helping me and I have reading that infact my problem could be low stomach acid. Has anyone experienced this problem?
Has anyone weened off successfully, how did you do it?
Thanks

My doctor gave me PPi's to help with my IBS. Said it would help with the anxiety. I found it made me worse. I only took them for a few weeks. They made me feel really depressed and like a zombie. Defo not for me.
My consultant told me to wean myself off them slowly by dropping to one tablet on alternate days, then every third day etc. I was off them within three weeks but two weeks later I am doubled in pain and sickness from GERD. I’m having manometry tests in 2 weeks but I’m hoping I can go back on them after that. I’ve been taking them for around ten years. They weren’t fully solving my problems but now without them, I feel much worse, so I’m guessing they must have been helping me in some way. I would check with your doctor before trying to wean yourself off them though.
