How much magnesium citrate for chronic constipation?

I see so many posts mentioning Magnesium Citrate but i don't understand the dosage. When say 400 mg is suggested is this elemental magnesium or the compound itself? i have some 250mg of MC but each capsule only has 75 mg of actual magnesium. Can someone clarify this for me please

Yes, total elemental magnesium is the number you want to be looking at. And dose is personal. You need to find that fine line between regular bowel movement and diarrhea. Diarrha is an overdose (unless you are using it for a clinical prep for surgery of course) and is not sustainable for more than a few days.

I am wondering where to see this, as I am new to this to with MC. My bottle says Magnesium (Cirtrate) 160mg. Non GMO, Vegetarian capsules. I am wondering about the "vegetarian" part as I thought this was a mineral. Do I have the right one? It's all quite confusing.,

They mean they use no meat products to make the tablets with. Some tabletting agents are not vegetarian friendly. Should be in the ingredients list. Or if it says "Magnesium (as magnesium citrate) 500 mg" on the front that is the elemental level. Only 16% of citrate is apparently actually magnesium. Interesting.

It is..if it's only 16 percent citric acid..hoping it will still help me. Now I'm really confused..lol..

I think you are fine. If it is from a shop and has 160mg in bold right up front then it is almost certainly 160mg of magnesium and a whole lot of citric acid yes.

I take 375mg magnesium citrate tablet from natures best and that seems to get things moving i always take with pint of water!

In evening before bed then by morning im ready to go.

I have also found a new more natural way and it called rhubarb complex and i got to say it is even better and more natural.

As someone that has been constipated since being a baby i know how it can effect life but i have now found a way at 44 to makes sure i do go every day.

I also make sure i have a healthy gut... ie probiotics, digestive enzymes . Peppermint oils capsules these all aid in a good gut bacteria

Keep us posted..it is considered an herbal laxative..so be prepared to be at home all day near toilet. As it cleans you out. You don't go once and you are done. It is a bit like the herb Senna for me, which I'm desperately trying to come off my seven year use of it. I am miserable that day (Sunday's) and still cramping a little as the laxative effect still is with you on Monday..so anything I eat on Monday just makes me cramp and I have diarrhea. Ugh.😓. Rhubarb did the same thing. And they say don't use for more than 2 months and it does have aloe in it. Google "Rhubarb complex warnings and side effects"..it does work..but like Senna a little too well..😟

Where are you purchasing the rhubarb complex? I usually use CALM magnesium powder. You know it's too much, if you become loose.

Hi..I know this wasn't directed to me personally..sorry. I got mine from twentyfirstcenturyherbs.com. They will give you a sample free trial bottle with about 10 or 12..you just pay a low shipping charge. I don't think Amazon.com sells it. I'm in the U.S. Hope this helps. Let us know how it works..

Also..it is considered an herbal laxative..like the Senna I take. It cleans you out..so be prepared to stay home by a toilet all day. Not much fun..which is why I'm desperately trying to get off my weekend use of Senna and find something where you just are regular every day or every two days. (We don't need to have a bm every single day). Where I just go once and I'm done for day and not miserable back and forth to toilet all day. I have no idea where to find something like this..😟
