Lactose intolerance

Happy New Year everyone.

I've been on a low FODMAP diet for about six months now. I've had very little success at the introduction of the the various food groups. My first trial was with lactose, this didn't go well and I'm at the stage of being tested for lactose intolerance.

Apparently, the lactose intolerance is done at home using a 'kit' that will posted to me by my hospital (NHS).

Does anyone have any experience with this lactose intolerance test?

Thanks.

Yes I do. I had breath tests- I think is probably what you’ll be asked to do. That’s how my intolerance was picked up.

Basically you have to drink a preparation that contains lactose and then breathe into a bag at set times over a designated period of time whilst you drink the lactose solution. I opted to come in and do the tests rather than do it at home. You might get symptoms. The results of the breath tests will flag up if you have an intolerance.

Thanks for that.

I was expecting that it would be a hospital visit but maybe it can be done as you describe.

Guess this suggests, that you could just go and buy one of these kits yourself rather than waiting about two months for an appointment.
