Have just been diagnosed with Hydrogen SIBO-very relieved to have a diagnosis other than IBS. Can anyone with this diagnosis shed some light on management and what’s helped them or what hasn’t? Been told about some antibiotics that should clear everything up. Is this true?

Thanks

No no no no to antibiotics. Please google this...

It is what actually gave me it as i was so ill with another problem that put me in hosp for weeks and they pumped me full of antibiotics...

When i went in i had a minor ibs problem when i came out i couldnt eat , lost 2 stone, my hair fell out... it was awful. The pain in stomach was horrendous.

I eventually saw a gastro who work in conjuction with a naturopath and is very up to date with her views and they recognsied sibo / candida straight away.

I was told in no way should i take antibiotics or a antifungal!

It is what kills ur stomach lining kills all ur good gut bacteria and leaves ur stomach stripped bear and red raw!

Sibo is a overgrowth of bad yeast that grows and takes over and kills the good bacteria... so u have to kill it.

This was the diet i was given.....

1. No sugar( it thrives on sweet things, so fizzy drinks, sweets anything sweet)

2. No yeast as ur just feeding yeast with more yeast( my gut would literally throw it back up id i so much as ate one mouthful of bread)

3. Processed food

4. Garlic onions lemon vinegar tomatoes anything sharp will kill u coz ur guts raw.

5. Lay of gluten and dairy

Then u need to re feed it good gut bacteria..

1. Probiotics( 2 a day. Not with anything hot as it kills the good gut bacteria before get to gut)

2.digestive enzymes( 2 a day)

3. Peppermint capsule( high strength, again 2 a day)

4. Vitamin c

5. Tablets called DIDA they have every natural herb that kills it.

6. I ate lots of greens and turkey and chicken( no red meat ur gut cant digest it especially now.

I did this for 6 weeks but i can tell u now i felt better within 1 week. I could eat again. Within 4 weeks it had totally gone but i stuck totally with it for 6 weeks and i was normal. Put on half a stone , could eat again. I had no pain.

It changed my eating habits so much ive more or less stuck to diet!

I feel so much healthier on it.

Yeh not totally, i treat meself ie choco ( only dark though) back to skimmed milk and lactose free cheese.

But i still take all the tablets and it has stopped all my ibs symptoms to.

It is hard but if ur bad its easy coz ur so deaperate! Plus it only 6 weeks and ur done

Read up on antibiotics for sibo or candida most people will tell u no no no no no

Thanks so much for your reply. This sounds similar to FODMAP diet? Also sounds like you had a lot of doctor/dietician involvement? Not sure if they will be this involved with mine but sounds like I need to see someone who really knows their stuff to help me

They only gave me the basics i got most of google truth of it.

It seems to b not very accepted over here so much but america it is.

I googled candida/sibo and there was alot about healing it naturally and when u actually get into it and read why and what it is it kinda makes sense...

Most peoples comes on through antibiotics or bad case of food poisoning or just general bad eating.

So i read up , did my homework and put in what the naturopath and gastro said and that was what i did ..

Within 6 weeks mine had totally gone!

No tablets, no antibiotic, no anti-fungal stuff just healthy eating and supplements that kill it off.

It is gross as u actually see the die off in ur 💩!!!! So u know it working .. basically u killing and starving it.. if it got no sugar, yeast and gluten it dies.

I felt healthy again in about 1-2 weeks and with 4 it had gone totally.

I now back up to good weight whereas i was soooo skinny i looked awful. I can more or less eat anything but choose to still b gluten free as i do think it makes a diff to my ibs. I also still take all the supplements as i noticed a change in skin, nails, hair, celluite, energy, ibs, not had a cold in 2 years... even though my whole family had flu and cold about 5-6 times it has missed me every time...

So my immune is good.

There no lose situation really...

Hi Sophie there is a very interesting article titled Candida Yeast Infection Relief and Treatment. online USA There are several natural remedies which if changed every four days wont lead to resistance to the substances. Other articles recommend nystatin as a good antibiotic to get rid of it. The remedy I use is coconut oil with no sugar and no yeast. Lu lububs is right that if different courses of antibiotics are used it can actually encourage the Sibo. It's knowing the right one which might be Nystatin but may well not be on the formulary. It is a real devil to get rid of as it can hide, and adjust to substances and goes underground deep in tissue. I have used the brand Canestan cream and there is an oral medication which can be used but have found the cream ok. For digestion I'm not sure if the Canestan medication would work but as it is the same disease and is not an antibiotic it may well help. Hope you have time to read the article as it is an insight.

Hey sophie

As other people have said there other things u can take for quick fix but as my gastro said it can make it worse or it can make the candida/sibo mutate to become immune to it so it wont work.

The only real way to do it and stop it from returning is properly. U keep feeding it tablets it learns to take it and feed off them as antibiotic will kill any good gut bacteria u have left which means ur get worse.

Im sorry there really is no easy fix... but like i said yeh it a strict regime but it only 4 weeks??? That not long and then it gone?for good put it this way i done this two years ago and never had it since

Hi,

I was diagnosed and candaclear four works pretty good! Can get right off of Amazon. I go on and off it as I have symptoms. Only thing is .. I feel maybe building a resistance to it with taking frequently. But if you haven’t taken I would highly recommend it :) & get going on it to feel better! No harsh side effects, you will also have more regular bathroom visits as well!

Hi Sophie ! Glad that you finally got some answer other than " just IBS " label! just to make sure that you really have candida or no ..i suggest taking the Candida Albicans /Antigen blood test .Not sure if sibo is the same as candida as it has a seperate name called SIFO ( small intestinal Fungal overgrowth ) here is a link to explain it better ,:

Lulububs is 100% right. Don’t do the antibiotics , make sure not to use any PPIs like Omeprazole as they’re known to cause SIBO. And the diet suggested by Lulububs is very similar to the low FODMAP diet. Be aware though that it could take a while to get better . The FODMAPs diet helps against bloating.

Hi Teddie, I don’t know much about SIBO myself and dr said that he didn’t think I had it...and then test came back positive. Soo my symptoms are massive amounts of bloating even though I’ve eaten very little, a lot of pain and discomfort constantly, my bowel movements don’t change (luckily), but have wind and nausea. I have yet to try the antibotics as my ibs has been pretty good for the first time in years, so I’m staying clear of any risks from antibiotics. I think my ibs has cleared up poss due to increasing my amitriptyline to 40mg daily a couple of months ago.
