hi Cjc - colds can upset your colon producing mucus. Some lead to a bacterial infection of the bowels. You mentioned eating rice before pgain - that's interesting as I found recently I had multigrain allergy including rice, and dairy, and egg, banana, maize -

Since removing the allergens every thing has improved. May be you are eating foods you think are ok but you have a reaction to. I found egg, especially hard boiled, triggered pain and bloating. I love eggs so with all the other food intolerances, I can't eat cakes, or confectionery like milk chocolate, as it has ordinary dairy milk. I use lactase free milk now which is better for me. I had the test done at an Alphega branch of chemists linked to NHS,

-it was brilliant. It was not too expensive and it was a simple test with a finger prick to collect blood samples, which took less than a few minutes. The results were fed into a special smart device and fed into the computer. 65 foods were tested, so even those foods that were not marked as mild, including egg, were removed. I had colofac which was extremely good - which targets the gut and calms it down. With bloating, gas, and other symptoms I found fibre gel, flavoured sachet drinks, helpful on prescription.

Hope you get advice from GP.

Yes you are right - when you are anxious it upsets the bowel. Drink plenty of water to wash out cold. Eat binding foods such as scrambled egg and milk drinks such as hot milk with cocoa, avoid spicy fatty foods, expect you'll feel better. If it is a bug such as

gastro enteritis, then you could take enterovioform, or over counter products such as Lomotil. Sure you will feel better but might feel tired if you are out of sorts.

Stress is a major cause of IBS and a cold makes you feel lousy. Have you tried another medication such as Colofac which has no side effects as far as I know?

It targets the muscle of the colon only, so it can relieve the spasm, and control the muscles which are not under your conscious control. You can take this with the gel. Hope you have a chance to rest at week end as a 6 day week is arduous.

Have found this a breakthrough when I had it really badly.
