Me versus IBS

Hello All. So today is day 9 of my new food plan. For 8 weeks I suffered IBS symptoms as well as gut infection and UTI. I cut out everything but water, decaf tea with spoon of white sugar and rice milk. Free from porridge oats with a spoon of sugar and rice milk. Free from white bread with olive oil spread. Grilled chicken/Salmon tinned tuna, mash potatoes/white boiled rice, carrots, organic oat biscuits, free from plain biscuits. Yesterday I added green beans. Last night no bloating, very little cramps and this morning a normal visit to the loo. I am ordering a blood test to check my vitamin/mineral levels. Today I will eat normal white bread! Wish me luck, my plan is to eat a balanced diet without IBS symptoms 😁

Good luck to you. Hope you make some progress.

I've been on low FODMAP for two months, started introducing milk and other foods (too much too soon) so then things went pear shaped.

So now, back to low FODMAP and try another food group at the weekend but this time in isolation and in small amounts too.

How long are you giving before you think you're in the clear with a food and then safe to try another? I think at least two days is best and just one food or food group in isolation.

I was thinking of one food per day, tomorrow white bread😳

Hmm, I think I'd have more of a break in between unless you normally get a negative reaction quite quickly. I've known my reaction to be delayed by at least a day or more.

Then it also comes down to how much of the food you can tolerate without symptoms. You may be ok with just one slice but more may cause a reaction.

I'd start small at first I think.

Maybe one slice with a two day delay.

Then try two slices with another two day delay to see what happens.

This is my first experience with IBS it started after a bowel infection 8 weeks ago. I’ve just read that one slice is enough and I will wait 2 days before trying again. Many thanks, I need all the help I can get. I went to see my GP today asking for a referral to a dietitian but she is waiting for the report from the gastroenterologist even though I gave her the report so I think I’m on my own for awhile!

Think you've got further with your GP than myself.

Are you also now looking at Probiotics?

It just goes to show how, if you find the right diet, you can begin to heal. Well done and good luck to you for the future.

Thank you. For me it’s not about eating the things that please my mouth and my mind it’s about what my body needs and can handle. It’s taken me a week to enjoy decaf tea with rice milk 😁

Really hope that works for you:)
