Hi all, I had to pull over whilst driving home last night as in such pain and 3 explosive diarrhoea episodes. I feel as if my guts are ruling my life - have such terrible bloating and stabbing pains in my ribcage - really getting me down

Have you tried any medication for the pains? I find both Buscopan and peppermint capsules helpful.

I am currently trying Buscopan - and a friend suggested gluten free - trying to find what works best.

Keeping a food diary is always a good idea as it means you might be able to spot a pattern to these pain episodes.

You can be prescribed amitryptaline for pain, so I suggest to speak to your doctor!

Hi Sara66. Have you tried the FODMAP diet? Going on that and working out what foods my body reacts to has really dialled down my symptoms..

1st, have you been diagnosed? have you had a recent colonosocpy? Sometimes diarea isn't what you think, it could be caused from a blockage or too much stool in the colon. This can cause pockets in the colon called diverticulii. What happens is your colon holds to much fecal matter which causes a blockage and only the soft and liquidy matter rushes past causing the explosive type diarea. The pressure causes the pain in the colon and can lead to the diverticulii. You should immediatley see a doctor for this. They can tell from a simple x-ray, and or a colonoscopy. I hope this helps you and good luck, I hope you to feel better!!!

they can tell from a simple x-ray that someone has diverticulitis ?? i didn't know that info !! does this need the same prep for colonscopy ??

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear in what I was saying. The x-ray will show if you have overburdened colon from stool, the colonoscopy will show the diverticuli. No prep for x-ray as they'll need to see if you are overburdened . I hope this helps. Good luck and good health too you!

Thank you for calrifying the differences .. i thought there is something out there that is less invasive to check for colon abnormalities as i'm horrified to go through the whole Colonscopy prep / process 😓
