Skid marks!

AlexanderT2018 profile image

Does anyone else have skid marks for hours after a bowel movement? I can have a bath or shower after but If I wipe again hours later there’s still residue. They stop when I have a bath in the evening. Starting to really depress me now. Will be visiting a doctor soon but wondered if there is anything I can try in the mean time .

Thanks

Have you tried using moist toilet tissues? They are really good to use after normal toilet paper - leave you nice and fresh.

Hi,

Yes I’ve tried all bits like that. I can be 100% clean, then over the next 5/6 hours I will have to clean up again about 4-5 times. It’s not a lot but it’s not very pleasant!

Maybe you have hemorrhoids. They tend to get inflamed during your bowel movements. Afterwards they start to settle down and then that’s when you notice that there is still residue. So nothing harmful, just not the most pleasant of experiences.

Silly question but are they internal as well as external? Nothing on the outside so I guess I’ll need a probe soon!!

Yes, you can get both types of haemorrhoids, internal and external. Also with IBS there can be a leakage of mucus which may be what you are experiencing.

Is the mucas thing a big problem? Is there anything I can do to help? More fibre, change of diet etc?

Probably best to check with your doc, but as a point of interest, I had a slight problem with mucus particularly after milky products - I have not been bothered by it since taking a digestive enzyme tablet just before I drink or eat things like hot milk, cereal with milk, yogurt or ice cream.... Also I have read that if you get very constipated it is possible for liquid faeces to bypass the 'blockage' and seep out. So a few things that may be causing your problem but always best to get checked out by your doctor to put your mind at rest. Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I have been having problems getting a gastro to prescribe a digestive enzyme for me. I just get dismissed. Can I ask which one you take? Does it have to be prescribed? I am trying to find a good one, but not too expensive.

I get mine from Holland and Barrett (ordered online as don't live near a town)....it's called Super Lactase Enzyme and you get 60 in a tub and take one just before any Dairy. Price varies but both times I've ordered it has been on offer, so for instance, in May I bought 2 tubs for total of twelve pounds instead of almost 24 pounds. Plus p&p, 2.99. Sorry can't finds pound sign on stupid phone keyboard! Hope this helps.

Thanks, so..it's just used for people who are lactose intolerant?

SnooW profile image
SnooW in reply toEliana5

I think that is who they are aimed at, yes. However, I've never been diagnosed lactose intolerant personally but saw these mentioned somewhere and thought I'd try them as i was getting mucous discharge and sometimes diarrhoea after eating milky products. They seem to help as not had the mucous thing since I've been taking them, but am thinking of stopping them after the next tub of them just to see if symptoms return.

They can be both and the fecal matter (sorry) can get trapped. The hydrocortisone cream and tucks pass will really help soothe the area.

Yes, it seems like I can never "get clean" or feeling like incomplete bowel movements. I hate it. Shows up on toilet paper after I wipe, then after I wipe again using warm water. I go through so much T.P! Then sometimes I see it on my underwear occasionally, but that is only on the weekends when I have to use a laxative just to flush. My Doctor prescribed "Anusol, or Hydrocortisone cream (2.5%) to put on after a bowel movement, and told me to use "tucks pads" after a movement, rather than irritating toilet paper. It will clean the area better, especially if you have "piles"..I have found this really makes a difference. Try not to run too hard, or wet the t.p. so you don't irritate further causing skid marks, or try the tucks pads and cream.

I have the same problems as you Eliana5! Do tucks work better than cottonelle type wipes? I’m in the US. I think lots of folks on here are UK?

TerrymC54 profile image
TerrymC54 in reply toElisa_marie

I think the Tucks are better since they are treated with Witch Hazel, which helps shrink & soothe the area, especially if there are hemorrhoids. Heaven knows that we are constantly wiping, anything that helps!!

Yes, they work so much better, and they feel better too..☺. They have a very cooling sensation. If you try them, let me know what you think..

I will definitely get to the doctors in the next few weeks. I have a really bad memory so can’t be how long this is been going on. I think it’s been a few years though. I will try some of the bits you guys mentioned. It is starting to depress me a bit now, as is my IBS which is getting worse. I’ll keep trying to stay positive though!

Sometimes I think it’s the moisture from sweat that gets on there and hen shows up when you wipe as I get this quite a lot too.

Like I said yesterday put some soft toilet paper between your cheeks and leave it there no more skid marks on your underpants I do it all the time, or go to the doctors. Dennis

Would it be hard to walk around like that? Yikes..

I do this to cope. You don't need a big wad, just two or three squares (bonus: acts as a muffler for your farts!)

One big drawback: I have occasionally had my "plug" get dislodged, work its way down my pants leg and fall out. As far as I know, I've always been able to pick it up discreetly and walk away. At least I've never seen anyone react as if they've seen it. Warm weather now, and I'm wearing white pants!!

I have this all the time - I have to wash myself after EVERY bowel movement!! I do have both internal and external haemorrhoids

In Italy, they have be-dais (spelling?) next to toilets to sit in and have a short “butt bath.” I wish I had one! A friend of mine installed one but they’re not cheap!

I thought I was the only one who suffered with this problem. It's almost reassuring that other people suffer too.

I have it everyday! Awful! When I.m out I wear sanitary towels! Hate it! It's usually happens if I.m constipated!😥😥

Elisa_marie profile image

Yes I have this too! It’s so frustrating! I can’t seem to fully evacuate and have loose stools almost daily. I use wet wipes and lots of rectal cream (hydrocortisone) because it gets so irritated and sometimes bleeds.

Eliana5 profile image
Eliana5 in reply toElisa_marie

Have you tried the "Tucks" medicated pads? I find they are the only thing that helps..

denn41 profile image

No elian5 5 years ago I had cancer in that area I'm now in remission so I know what I'm talking about you don't put a toilet roll there only 2 small bits of toilet roll saves having skid marks on your pants. He may have a poor anal sphincter tone which is causing it to leak onto his pants his doctor will tell him what to do to stop it hope this helps.Denn41

It has actually worked well for me..I also use ice packs to help shrink the "swelling" and take sitz baths. Everyone is different I guess. It's all trial and error. I hope we all get the help we need.

Thanks for all of the replies. Trying to get an appointment next week at the doctors. Will keep you posted.

Not sure if related or not but does anyone else feel a a slight urge to poo. Not sure if that’s the best description but sometimes it feels as though I’m pushing a bit. Not all the time, it comes and goes . More fun!!

I was diagnosed with IBS about 15 years ago and this has become a major problem for me in recent weeks - so I'm having more tests!

In the meantime my GP has advised more fibre in my diet (more?) and suggested using ladies panty liners in my underwear to contain the leaks - it's embarrassing & weird (as a bloke) but they really do work, and give me confidence that I'm not staining my pants & trousers. My wife has helped me through the options, and supermarket own-brand long ones work best for me.

Just waiting for the results of the tests and the inevitable gastroenterology appointment now.
