Sleep aids suggestions when have Sibo symptoms

Hi all. I'm going to get a SIBO test as soon as I can, as have all the symptoms. I'm concerned now, I've gone 4 nights with very little sleep due to symptoms. ( I'm eating low fodmaps and taking charcoal for gas etc) not enough to let me sleep through.

How does anyone get to sleep with the symptoms? Sleeping pills don't even work. I get an hours sleep only in the bath with bath salts.

Any suggestions?

So I'll reply to my own post. I went to Urgent treatment centre yesterday as 4 day lack of sleep was extremely bad. I took a diazepam last night. But still woke up with abdominal pain at 4 am. At least i had a few hours sleep though. The Drs did tests on me etc at the UTC . Nothing untoward they said, just my usual chronic digestive issues. I just find it difficukt at moment not knowing what to do at 4am when i wake with pain. So i read these messages here. On this site. Im a bit confused what to do about getting a SIBO test, and also whether going on anti microbials will help or instead try the probiotics which crowd out the bad guys ( SYMPROVE) someone mentioned earlier. At urgent care centre, the Dr said i need to try Buscopan to rid my gas symptoms, so i can at least try and sleep. I will start this tomorrow or and see what happens. I'm finding it difficukt to work at the moment, this is getting me down, and i hate letting others down, plus i have exciting projects i want to finish. My mum has recommended Lifespan Integration techniques to help with the therapeutic side of 'digestive' issues. I have therapy already but just thought others could look at that too. ( About early childhood neglect causing these pain things now) . I'm finding i just need to talk to someone in the early hours .... Anyone else feel the same? Let's chat!

Hi Beetroot, if you need to talk to someone in the early hours give Samaritans a call. They listen to anyone who needs to talk to someone on any topic at all. tel. 016 123 Seriously, that is what they do, you don't have to be suicidal.

Thanks Babsy for your reply! It's so heartening when you feel someone is there. 8 remember trying to get thru to Samaritan's a year ago when i first had sone bad days, but nobody picked up the phone! Must have been busy i suppose. I remember getting through to sone service my Dr recommended- mental health nurses on night duty . I will look into that again... Thanks Babsy for writing, great to know my message here was read - hope u r doing ok x

That is disappointing from Samaritans. They aim to have 24 hour coverage. Glad you found some support elsewhere though.

Is your doctor fully briefed on your situation and are you in the queue for SIBO test?Assume you taking pro biopics ?

I've got a test booked for 2 weeks time with NHS. I'm not taking probiotics as I'm worried this will feed all the bad guys. At the moment everything i eat feels so uncomfortable, pain as it goes down, then gas, then waking at night with gas in abdomen. Last night managed 4 hours sleep with pill. Do you think I should take very low dose probiotics?

Hi. I had a SIBO test through my gastroenterologist. If you are seeing a Gastro ask them. If not get yourself referred to a Gastro ASAP. If you are in the position to do so you can see one for around £200 privately, this will cut out the long initial wait and you can always still have the test on the NHS. I am assuming you are in UK. With regards to the probiotics, if you have SIBO probiotics are the worst thing you can take as there should be no bacteria, good or bad in the Small intestine, if you take probiotics you are feeding the bacteria and making the problem worse. I suffer from pain and extreme bloating and was convinced I had SIBO but the test was negative so I am still searching for an answer. The only thing that helps me is taking daily laxatives, Laxido in my case and avoiding gluten, onions and garlic.

Did your SiBO test rule out Candida ( gut) too? Cos that might be a different test?

I am not sure they tested for Candida just SIBO. Still waiting to have official results back from Gastro but my readings did not go up so it was negative x

My Dr also prescribed me Lanzeprole . I did take it yesterday.... Then when i went to the Urgent Care Centre yesterday, they said i should take Buscopan for the cramps not Lanzeprole. I'm confused, should i keep with the Lanzeprole - i heard it feeds the bad bacteria too ( if u have SIBO)???

If you have SIBO then PPI’s such as Lanzerprole are not good. You really need to know what you are dealing with. Overuse of PPI’s is a major cause of SIBO. PPI’s are used to combat acid but by reducing the acid it can allow the bacteria to grow and if it is in the wrong place as in SIBO, the small intestine, it will make the problem worse.

Try this quiz and it might give you some answers. Saying that my result came back as SIBO but test was negative but worth a shot. static1.squarespace.com/sta...

If you wake up during the night, take 25 mg. Meclizine -- it will calm your gut and help you sleep.

Thx for that. i actually don't get C or D, just terrific trapped gas, pain with eating, difficulty to breath after eating. Abdominal pain wakes me up mid of night with very busy gas production . Thiamine i will look at though...

Beetru, I'm glad you'll take a look , it's not just another pretty face. These links provide some of the other needs your body has for it. Thiamine does need magnesium to activate it. While your at it, check out the other B vitamins. They work better together.

Hi I hope you are feeling a little better. My gastro took me straight off Lanoparsol as it's not good for IBS D. I have stomach cramps and gas bit mebevarine works for me. I've also had 4 months of hypnotherapy which was amazing. I do take Symprove but it's no good for Sibo, so I'm told. Good luck and how about peppermint tea before bed, it helps cramps. Claire xx

When I wake up in the early hours I go on Youtube & listen to hypnosis & meditation videos for getting to sleep & IBS-related ones. They usually send me to sleep. You don't really have to concentrate & I think it's a soothing voice that helps.

I have tried that too. There's one i like meditation for healing cells - sort of hypnotherapy - but sometimes i just can't breathe physically and i just PACe around my flat trying to move stuff! Anyway today i took buscapan and had a session of acupuncture. - wow the pain of those two together is off the scale😩
