So I have previously tried Fodmap (unsuccessfully) but it’s been mentioned again & again lately so I’m thinking of trying it again.
I have previously cut out gluten (to no real effect) & recently tried going lactose free (this made my flatulence worse if anything) but am thinking of aiming at cutting out the other culprits...
I have found an app called Fodmap fm which is linked to nhs but at £3.99 I wondered whether anyone else had tried it and got along with it??
Thanks

Try the Monash University app. This is where the FODMAP diet was invented. It is in
australia. Also, you can look at their web site which has a lot of info on the diet. I have found that the key thing is that you have to be very strict. This means reading labels. For example onions are not allowed. Ketchup contains onion powder and therefore isn not a good choice. Working with a dietician also helps, but it has to be one who is FODMAP trained. Good luck. It has helped me a lot.
Thanks, I’m gonna try and go it alone...but be stricter then I was last time...which is hard...because I love so much food the diet says isn’t on the cards 🙈
I understand. The first time I tried it I wasn't strict & it didn't really work. Second time I have been super strict & it is working. I have also pretty much adjusted to it and it has become a habit. On rare occasions, I go off it, but know I will have problems the next day. Also, my gastro recommended peppermint pills & probiotics.
I have read in many articles that hardly any of the good bacteria in probiotic drinks will survive to the gut to do any good.
Equally, the company from which I first bought probiotic capsules (Nature’s Best) advised that they be taken first thing in the morning with a glass of water, so that they have the best chance of making it to the gut. Hot drinks will kill the bacteria.
I now use Holland & Barrett Acidophilus (3 billion) as they are much cheaper and just as effective.
I take peppermint oil (Colpermin) about 10 minutes later, before breakfast, every other day. That seems to help too.
The £3.99 NHS affiliated one is excellent. The ability to walk around Tesco or Sainsbury's and scan items to find if they're suitable or not, turned a nightmare into a breeze. Also liked the way it coached you through the reintroduction phase. Good luck!
Yep it does. Used it in Budgens, Morrisons, Waitrose and Asda. They constantly update the food library too. Just make sure if/when you get it, you change the settings to show ALL foods, regardless of FODMAP status. App is default set to hide and Red/Yellow foods, so at first you're scanning and it's as though they don't have anything in the library. But actually once you change the settings it's fine
