I would definitely recommend giving it a go. I haven’t found it foolproof, but it has definitely helped. I was having D every 7-10 days before FODMAP in 2016. I started the diet in January this year and I’d say I’ve had D since... 7 times total! A vast improvement. It’s tough, but you’ll get used to it and it’ll help you work out your main triggers. Good luck!
I tried I all. But ended up being diagnosed with Dysbiosis. This is food fermenting in your gut. You could ask your doctor for a test.
I now have my IBS completely under control by working out which foods (all FODMAPs) affect me. It took a bit of trial and error as sometimes I am ok with a smaller amount of something or one thing on it's own but they have a cumulative effect. e.g I am ok with a small amount of well cooked onion or a tiny amount of garlic but if I have too much of one or the other or have them both at once my IBSD comes back. Certain things like cherries, peas and sweet potatoes I just never eat now and just a ting bit of any of them sets me off. I have a particular problem with Polyols and some Oglios. To start with I cut out absolutely everything on the list for two weeks (4 weeks is recommended but my symptoms went away very quickly when I cut everything out - you might want to do the full 4 weeks to really give your system a rest) I then started introducing the foods I pretty much knew weren't triggers first and then things I thought might be triggers but wasn't sure of. Hope that helps
What did you do about flavourings and natural flavourings? I am unsure how to test for these but the app I use keeps telling me I have not tested for them but I can't see how to test for them. Thanks
I'm not sure, sorry. I tend to eat a mainly fruit, veg and grain based diet with a bit of fish and cook from scratch so don't have that many flavoured things. I know that if I ever have MSG in anything that starts my IBS up so avoid that. I also steer well clear of any artificial sweeteners ending in 'ol' as they cause me no end of bother.
Hi it's mostly helped me to manage IBS symptoms. But recently tested for candida overgrowth which was positive which explains symptoms so a whole different diet for short term. Would suggest testing for candida if you have not already x
I have been on the FODMAP diet for 6 weeks after 20 miserable years with IBS C. I am very strict with and my symptoms disappeared within a week. With Christmas approaching and eating out a lot, I am a bit worried about the consequences. I will start the reintroduction in the new year. I can say that for me, it has been miraculous. I went to a trained dietitian on fodmap advised by my gastroenterologist.
