Turmeric in warm water to help with diarrhoa

My son went travelling 3 years ago and picked up two parasites cryptosporidium and giardiasis . Ever since he has had chronic diarrhoa.

He is currently travelling again in Asia and whilst trekking his diarrhoa really flared up. His tour guide gave him turmeric dissolved in warm water and miraculously it worked, he only went once more in the next day and a half !!!!

Has anybody heard of this or tried it?

Can really say for sure, but I believe tumeric is an ingredient in curry and if I eat curry it always seems to put my tummy right. So there may be something in the tour guide's solution!

Perceived wisdom is to avoid spicy foods, but I have to say, a good curry settles my gut too. Maybe there is something in this. Off to dig out the tumeric!

Hi BabsyWabsy, if you do try it can you let me know how you get on, so I can be prepared for when he comes home. Thank you.

Hi, I drink turmeric tea... Having one right now! Fresh turmeric is probably better but I struggle to find it. I have IBS D and find both turmeric and ginger tea helpful. Hope your son continues to be D free and enjoys his trip 😊

Hi Caz, what do you put in your tea, does it come as a herbal tea bag? Any info you can give me will be very helpful so I can try it when he eventually comes home. Thank you.

Hi, I use a tea bag. It's from Pukka tea, turmeric gold. It's a blend of turmeric, leaf green tea and lemon. I'm in the UK so you can buy it most supermarkets . You can probably get it online, it's really nice I find it helps xx

You know you could be onto something there. I’m not from the medical profession and I do suffer with IBS-D. I’m on nortriptyline tablets and I do find it helps ALOT. But just going back to the turmeric solution, i remember my mum talking to an Indian Doctor once about my mans Alzheimer’s he said and don’t know how accurate his response is but no one in India suffers with Alzheimer’s as most if not all the food in India has turmeric in it and he believes it was a natural healer. So the guide who it to your son to drink may be onto something. I will give it ago and see what happens. Thank you
