Depression due to i.b.s.

I just thought to share the following with you. My i.b.s. became so severe that I ended up in a psychiatric hospital due to severe depression. They have doped me there. I was put on Venlor and Adco-mirteron anti depressants. The venlor made me so sick I almost went nuts. I stopped using the venlor and went on Wellbutrin. I must say I feel much better now. Don't just go to a place like this. There is really some mentally ill patients and they make you get even more depressed. The withdrawel symptoms were severe. I had the most horrific nightmares for 2 weeks and I am a person who hardly ever dream. Thank's God I am better now!!!

Ditto. I’m grateful I did not end up in the hospital from all the IBS Rx they attempted to give me. All the meds made me woozy and weird in the eyes. I could not function so off on a health journey I’ve been for the last 16 years.

I stopped Cymbalta and Celebrex and went to a neurologist two years. I was having awful side effects from Rx after taking for 7 years. My Migraines took over my life and I was taking Imitrex so often my General Doctor wanted to add Inderal. My mom was on Inderal for 30 years so I knew those side effects were not what I wanted. The neurologist tested me for food allergies and gluten was removed from diet along with sugar and a list of foods.

Two years later, I have no migraines and my stuttering has stopped. I’ve recently added MagSmart at night for sleep and feel my brain waking up. It contains three different types of magnesium and crosses the blood brain barrier like most anti-depressants do. I was mineral deficient for so long. I take other supplements and a daily vitamin. I don’t drink cokes and stopped the sweet tea. My diet and lifestyle was causing joint pain and brain fog. I feel so much better now.

Amazon reviews will help you learn a lot from users experiences with supplements sold. Amino acids help some. So sad that America has arrived here becoming a quick fix society. The benefits from a Whole Foods diet were crucial for me.

These supplements have helped my IBS: L-glutamine, DGL Licorice, Aleo Vera juice or pills, Enzymedica, probiotics, HCI with Pepsin.

I start my day with boiled eggs and loose leaf tea mixture of green, black and Oolang Teas. Coffee started causing severe indigestion.

I started the gluten free journey 10 years ago but lack of family support caused me to give up. My children are having issues now and one has tested positive for gluten intolerance and IBS. Her migraines have decreased and she was diagnosed with dysautonomia. Google dysautonomia. It explains a lot.

Thanks for replying. Please pardon my English. I understand it very well but writing it is not one of my strong points. Just like me I can see you also went to hell and back looking for something that can relieve this horrible I.B.S.

I also start my day off with poached or boiled eggs. Maybe I should cut on the coffee as well.

I also have a condition called ankylosing spondylitis and also suffer from hypertension and cholesterol. I already have a stent in plant in my aorta as well as a triple bypass.

I found that stress also contribute to I.B.S. and because I am working shifts it does not make it any easier. I also have to travel 50km to work and 50 km back. Sometimes I need to work 16 hours at a time. We work under tremendous pressure. I am working in a control room where we distribute the electrical networks over most of South-Africa. Now imagine working in this condition feeling drugged all the time. I don't feel sorry for myself because I am still vertical and breathing and have a lot to be thankful.

But one thing I know for sure is that having this condition made one a special blueprint. Because people who don't have it can't understand that sometimes the pain is so unbearable that you just want to lie down.

I was a keen runner and did a lot of races and then went to cycling and did about 30 100km races. Exercise also help a lot but nowadays because of my working condition I don't get much time to exercise. And it is exactly like you say to keep up with a diet is not easy especially with my working conditions. Some days I don't eat at all because there is no time to eat.

Enough about me wining. Wish you all the best and I hope if THEY found something that work for this horrible pain that me and you will be the first to obtain it.

Hang in there !!!

I hope you feel better. Your English seems very good. Nothing to apologize for.

Thanks Margie, I appreciate!!! You know sometimes I see myself as an alien or as some kind of specimen. I mean you don't know actually where to go because if someone invites you to a braai you already starts shivering when you think of the i.b.s. symptoms that is going to follow. When I take my wife out for dinner I look at people around me and see how they munch there food and even my wife can eat whatever she desire but me read the menu over and over to see if there is any possibility to eat something that won't affect me. I envy them although I know it is wrong to do so. The thing is with i.b.s. people do not react the same. There is so many different symptoms. I pray every day that someone or something can be found to relieve us from this horrific thing. To all my alien i.b.s. friends, i wish you all the best and let us keep on corresponding to see if we can't help each other.

Hang in there!!!

Thanks for your reply. What is a

braai?

A braai is when you fry meat on charcoal or wood. Went to watch a rugby match yesterday. It was hot and I had two beers and today I am suffering. Shame hope you feel better soon. If I may ask where do you stay???

Blander foods helped me heal or get to a better point. Preservatives flare

us. We had malabsorption. Having to supplement with sublingual vitamins. Healing is a long journey.

Misty, Have you also buy many products that you heard of to try and solve this mystery. I even went so far to contact a herb lady who stays in the Karoo and host a tv program. She send me some herbs which are combined from 14 different types of herbs. It helped a little bit but not as much as I hope it would. But let us keep on looking for answers. Wish you a pain free week !!!

Yes, many products. The amino acid L-glutamine helps tremendously. I use the loose powder of 1 tbsp and chace with water daily. I take more often if I have a flare. SmartMag, a magnesium blend, has helped stop my loose stool. It also helps with sleep and better cognitive results. I take Licorice, Aleo Vera, B12, D3, Zinc Carosine daily. I don’t realize how much I’ve healed and how much I’ve changed my diet until I talk about it. Eliminating gluten was the most noticeable change for me. I think it caused most of my damage and caused the malabsorption. I research and educate out of necessity. I’m waiting on the 23andme results to better tweek my diet. Self-hacked.com has an interesting story of unusual illnesses and his struggle for recovery. I’ve learned so much from his site. Blessings for your health journey.

Thanks Chrissy, You know I contacted a lady in America which suffered a lot due to i.b.s. She gave me a diet where you don't mix starch and meat. I must say it really help to relieve the pain although it is sometimes difficult to keep up with a diet like this. I am trying to make the most of my life because life is so short. I think if it wasn't for i.b.s. I would have done so many more extreme things. I love nature and the out doors so I try to be happy. I hope you are happy and please make the most of your life x

Your reply reminds me of my sister who had a colon resection and has fought for her life. Hers was chronic severe constipation due to nerve malfunction or so was the medical community conclusion. Nothing extreme for her anymore either. Bathrooms have to be very near. My heart aches for her. Every few months, she’s off work to heal. Hospitalized twice dear death. So, I take my issues in stride when I’m reminded of her which is daily as I text her encouragement. I knew I did not want her outcome if diet was the cause. I saw genetics were not in my favor and the pain was increasing along with the debilitating migraines. Prayers for all with intestinal issues. 💕

Surely you are blessed. My mother died at the age of 58 which was very hard for me. She was the most wonderful, loving mother one could ever have. With all the aches and pains we have we are really blessed. I have learned one thing and that is to take one day at a time and live my life to the fullest. Although the i.b.s. pain sometimes force you to lie down I still try to be my best. Tell me do you have any health issues???If I have to write a book about my life I think it will be a best seller due to it is unbelievable to think that one person could go through so many ups and downs that I have endure. Thanks for your reply. Look after yourself and may God bless you!!!

Hi

I was just reading your post and totally understand how you feel. I have functional gut disorder/ibs and crohns and also damage to my colon from years of severe endometriosis. I ended up in casualty then a surgical assessment unit in January this year due to a flareup which they thought was possibly diverticulitis so another to add to my list.

I had started the fodmap diet which seemed to help a little have you tried that? I get free recipes off Pinterest and I also take a good probiotic really helps me called quest mega 8 biotix. I buy it via amazon now as its cheaper.

My consultant told me two main things to aggravate it are wheat and dairy.

In pain now so will end there for now

Take care x
