Chamomile tea

I've read in this forum that chamomile tea is bad for people with IBS. Does anyone know the reason why?

I suffer from IBS and was actually recommended to drink chamomile tea to help with anxiety a few years ago and I find it does helps.

It would be interesting to see if anyone comments on the above.

I drink chamomile tea, found it really settles and calms after a flare, but yes it depends if you are intolerant to it. I drink peppermint too and ginger. I cut up and peel the ginger root and freeze then grate straight from the freezer into hot water.

I was recommend to drink herbal drinks by a doctor, just had a cup of camomile and honey with vanilla taste lovely,I think ordinary tea bags are to acidic Which doesn't help IBS type stomachs, also found coffee is out,as it irritates the bowels

Both chamomile and honey are very high in FODMAPS. But you're right - the combination of those two and vanilla are wonderful!

Best way to keep ginger, and it grates better from frozen too. Saw on a cookery program once.

Chamomile is high in FODMAPS. That's why you have heard that it isn't good for folks with IBS. If you tolerate it, though - keep using it. But if you're experiencing difficulty while using chamomile, remove it from your diet to see if it might be the culprit.

Many thanks to you and everyone else who have replied to my question about chamomile tea. I don't have any problem at all drinking it and I really find it helps to keep calm.

it depends on the individual as we are all different. Some people tolerate it with no problems yet others have problems with it. It all depends on what's right for you and finding out what upsets you and avoiding those things in future.
