I have suffered with this problem for a year, They say eat 5 a day, eat vegetables, yet any of the above have me rushing to the toilet, yet when I try to search for alternatives I find no help?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can improve my eating and include more protein, I tend to be heavy on the carbs, and after bad days over eat, stupid I know but no will power to stop.
Help would be much appreciated, I have always had a healthy lifestyle so this is very frustrating.

Careful food experimentation with an elimination diet and a food diary helped me to identify my problem foods. And as you say, a lot of them are fruit and veggies, though there are a lot I can still tolerate. It's a marathon figuring out what your triggers are, not a sprint. The FODMAPS elimination diet helped me immensely, and I had support from a dietician to ensure I was getting enough nutrients and protein
When I saw a dietitian for the low fodmap diet we talked about the IBS symptoms I was suffering from, my main worry was having to keep rushing to the loo urgently. The dietitian said that I was poorly absorbing certain foodstuffs and I wasn't getting any nourishment from them because they just activated my gut. On a follow-up visit I saw another dietitian who said to me "as long you eat all your portions of fruit and veg a day" and I said to her I can't do that it aggravates my gut she didn't have any other suggestions. I don't think she understood that not everyone can eat everything that you are supposed to eat when you have IBS flare-ups after eating them.
I know how you feel. I did try to do the fodmap diet but lost so much weight which I did not need to do. I cannot eat any vegetables or fruit as within a hour I am rushing to the loo. Dietitians do not seem to understand this, the book says you should eat 5 a day to be healthy, but if you cannot do this they give up on you. I did see a friend who is a trained nutriionist and she recommend some supplements that I can take to make up for the lack of fruit and veg.
I have to be very careful of how much fibre, fruit and veg I eat, I would like to be able to eat more but it just passes straight thru me. I also take lots of supplements to compensate and the dietitian told me take a calcium supplement too. I have also lost weight.
How many fruit do you eat daily. How many portions of veg ?
I think it depends on how your own gut can cope with fruit and veg, and what fruit and veg you are eating. if I eat say one apple, about 5 strawberries, a few bits of lettuce, a bit of tomato, cucumber, very small portion of corn on the cob and cooked green runner beans that would be the most I could eat on a daily basis.
May I say we are all individuals, we all tolerate different types of food, we all know the only one common factor that brings on is stress, forme I was a blood donor for 30 years, I have given nearly 100 pints on blood, but the last 2 years my haemoglobin levels are to low for me to give blood.
I take iron tablets and a wide range of supplements to help with the ibs, reduce stress (5htp) plus vitamin D.
I read so often people saying eat 5 a day, even on here what to eat regarding vegetables and fruits, I can only tell you if I eat any raw food it is fermenting in my stomach! I can feel it and hear it fermenting, then comes the severe pain of going to the toilet, the biggest pain comes from after going to the toilet? I am severely cramped up with pain, I have all the tests, as the doctor says they want you too and tailed, still nothing found.
