I have had several endoscopies over about 15 years. With the first 2 I just had the numbing spray (which I hate) and was sort of ok. With the last 2 I had sedation which was great. A really lovely Greek consultant told me she would never dream of having an endoscopy herself without sedation and she insisted I had it, so I didn't feel bad the next time I had one and said I wanted sedation again. I've also had sedation when I had a colonoscopy - no problem, in fact a really positive experience which is good because I need to have repeat ones every 3-5 years.
Hope you feel better soon. I don't think you are a wimp - my husband was much worse than me when he had one. But if the after effects continue or get worse go back to your GP or hospital.
My experience was horrible- the sedation did not work and I felt like I was being kicked in the stomach. It is also massively invasive, a bit embarrassing and generally not very nice.
Don't feel like whimp. It's tough but u are not alone x
