I am new here and had a rotten bout of Salmonella almost a year ago now. I have been categorized as having Post Infectious IBS. I have symptoms of chills and nausea and reflux every other week or so sometimes going up to 5 days at a time. I am told there is no cure. I cannot fathom that so many of us fall under the IBS umbrella with very little progress or cure. I take Probiotics, tumeric and LGluthimine. I stopped drinking all together and eat a very bland diet. Any suggestions or brilliant outcomes would be welcomed.
Unfortunately I don't have good news. I too had a nasty bout of food poisoning about 6 years ago (campylobacter pylori) since then I have been diagnosed with post infectious ibs. 6 years on and I'm still struggling. Mostly ibs d with bouts of nausea. It's really debilitating at times. I'm sat here at work just struggling to stay here. I'm contemplating trying symprove as it seems to work for a fairly high percentage of users. I just can't believe I this day and age that there's nothing that can be done. It's so frustrating.
I suffer from colitis which is similar, have you tried keeping a food diary to see what triggers it, it could just be a certain food you are eating which causes the problem. Good luck
Tango 49 takes a long time to get over samollena, cut out fats no fish and chips ,use skimmed milk ,not carton milk as high in which sugars, eat more fresh fruit, drink plenty of water every day work out what's good for you , try a fairly bland diet also try B.R.A.T.diet look it up on google
I have heard that green tea helps with ibs and any inflammatory conditions. My daughter has endometriosis and that's what they have advised her to have.
What probiotics are you taking ? And have you tried the low FODMAP diet .
Probiotics in my case made things worse . Except one type that was gluten and dairy free and it was like a liquid you drink in the morning . Calle md Symprove the original taste not the sweetened one .
Also two weeks of antibiotics to treat the H pylori infection and PPI 's to treat the duodenal ulcer that resulted from it . I cut down sugar to a minimum and did some breath treats . Apparently I became lactose intolerant and also fructose intolerant .
So how did you treat the salmonella ? Antibiotics ? Did you test later to make sure all nasties are gone from your system ?
I am in the US and taking Ortho Molecular brand. The have a really strong one and the regular and that is all I can tolerate. I was eventually treated with antibiotics although that is a last course as it can prolong the event. Mine lasted for weeks. Also salmonella can leave 'seeds' behind and regrow so every few months they re-test as I am still symptomatic. I did not present with typical symptoms--I never had a fever, only chills--extreme fatigue and a flu like feeling with nausea.
I am meeting a functional motility specialist at the end of September we will see what that brings.
THANKS for the luck I will need it To you as well.
It is astonishing to discover what gut troubles people suffer from, the internet seems to have made people much more able to discuss, otherwise it would not have happened.
Try the specific carb diet. Also, I have found that my diarrhea is severely impacted by my acid reflux. I take Prevacid and I never realized how much it helps my diarrhea until it got pulled from the shelves. My doctor explains that the extra acid causes chronic gastritis and colitis in me. Might be part of your issue.
