a simple but advanced stool test called ( Calprotectin stool test ) can rule out ibs if it came back positive ..positive  Calprotectin in stool is a strong inflammatory  marker  that there is inflammation  in the bowel/colon ..thus treatment  should be altered  towards treating the inflammation Not only the ibs symptoms. hope this helps..take care :)

Yes I agree with eternity78 that stool test indicates IBS and IBD presence . It's not always 100% as sometimes if there is no flare up if might be in the low numbers but it's still a good test to have along with a colonoscopy or CT colonography to rule out other Issues . The way I understood it is that IBS is diagnosed mostly by excluding all other gut issue causing diseases .

Good luck

Have you had a colonoscopy and/or a gastroscopy to dertermine that you have no other bowel condition ?

yes

If there's no other bowel condition diagnosed then it is more than likely IBS

What are your symptoms - constipation or diahorrea ?

Hi! Robert

I do not understand how the doctor could say he's not 100% sure.  A colonoscopy would tell you exactly what is going on in your bowel, have you had one of these tests?

Sympathize wholeheartedly  with your predicament re accidents, have you

ever noticed that whenever you use a public loo someone is always waiting

for you to exit.  as soon as you get in.  I recently had a call to my GP about

this problem and he suggested having Immodium in  tablet form so that

I can cut them in  two, as one dose ie 2mg causes more problems for me,

as its too strong as it 'bungs' up the works altogether.  Ive had a vital part of

my bowel removed due to prolapse so I do understand your despair.Dont

understand your lack of a diagnosis, I had a diagnosis 50 years ago when

it was called 'spastic colon'.  When I explained to my GP that when I go away on

holiday I have no problem, I take 1 Immodium in the morning and

everything runs like clockwork.  His reply was,  you are relaxed none of the

everyday problems to worry about chilled, stress free.  Funny thing is I am

retired and generally dont feel stressed,  but we do all have our day to day

niggles I suppose, makes you think!

Not what you're looking for?
