I am 56 years old.
I was on an Atkins diet since 2013 and it did help reduce my weight. I was very careful to include a lot of fiber in my diet from vegetables but not any fruits.
Since a year or more I have been having abdominal pain which is difficult to localize. Many times it is just a vague feeling of discomfort.
I do not have diarrhea nor constipation and I pass normal stools.
Usually my pain does NOT get relieved after passing stools.
This pain usually lasts for a week or so and then I am perfectly fine for 2 to 3 days and the pain recurs.
I have tried all muscle relaxants for the gut and they do not help much.
I am off Atkins now. I have been trying to figure out if any type of food triggers my pain - no luck.
Since it has been quite some time now this thing is really bothering me and I am always thinking about it.
I am going to see a gastroenterologist soon.
I have been told that IBS is very rare after 50 years of age - are there any people who have had it in later years of life?
I have been researching this topic and two conditions which come to my mind [and bother the hell out me] are CROHNS DISEASE and ULCERATIVE COLITIS.
Of course cancer is also always at the back of my mind.
Does any body have just abdominal pain which is the only feature and has been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel syndrome and how do you deal with it?
