IBS Study - Can you Help? Quality-of-life in IBS sufferers: the influence of illness perceptions, symptom severity, and coping.

You are invited to participate in an online study which is looking at factors that may influence the quality-of-life of IBS sufferers. This study is part of my final year project of BSc (Hons) Psychology at the University of Derby and consists of a collection of questionnaires. It may take up to 30 minutes to complete this study.

I have suffered from IBS for 15 years!! It got to the point where I didn't want to leave the house, or be in a situation where I became (out of my comfort zone) ( l always need to know where a loo was) so you know really how bad it was!! I hope you don't mind!! I am going to be honest...driving home one evening,I started to get lower tummy pain ,feeling very uncomfortable ,I had the worsted up set tummy ...thank goodness I was with my husband..it was that bad!!😭 My sister all so uses Symprove ..it's saved my life..totally put out lives back on track..I know what foods set if off ,I've only had 3 bouts of IBS in the last 18 month!! I never worry about going out ..thank you Symprove you saved my life ...Hali

Just completed. I've just finished my dissertation at uni and appreciate how frustrating it is when you can't get research questionnaires completed!

I suffer from ibs chronically but I try not to let it get me down, especially as I have a successful job for my age.

If you want to ask me anymore questions about anything, I will more Than happily participate. I would also be interested to see the results of your research!

Hi there

Having started your questionnaire, I'd just like to give some constructive feedback. I'm very busy but decided that such a survey is important and that i'd like to do whatever I can to help with research on IBS as I've suffered it all my life. However, I gave up because I found the questions very repetitive - by the third time of being asked if I had spoken to others about my problem and other similarly repeated questions, I'm afraid I lost patience and stopped. A pity as I think the intention is good - finding links (or none!) between stress and emotional responses to IBS would be very interesting.

Despite deciding not to complete the survey I wish you luck with your research.

Hi Hilary

Thank you for contacting. I appreciate the comments, however, as these questionnaires are accredited medical questionnaires and I have not made them it is important that all questions were answered. Even though it is quite lengthy, as stated in the invitation, it is very important to gauge similar questions together as this gives a better reading of true answers. Again thank you for attempting though.

Hi , I completed your survey - but I'm not sure if i fit in the "box" you are seeking to evaluate. I suffered from severe IBS for several years (was thought to be a possible bowel cancer by my GP - fortunately no cancer). But 6 years ago i had to have a large part of the bowel removed leaving me with a permanent stoma, with further surgery 2 years later, so some of the questions don't really apply (bowel movements etc) as there is now no control over the transit of chime, but I still suffer from many of the problems associated with IBS, made worse by the limited range of foods i can digest.

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to complete this study. I'm sorry to hear about all your have suffered with. Do you still have a formal diagnosis of IBS or do you have another diagnosis? If you have another diagnosis I may have to remove you from the study, I'm sorry. It is vital that everyone who participates has a current and formal diagnosis to ensure my results are not skewed.
