What does nagging pain in the upper left abdomen indicate
I don't know much about these things but your intestines are on the left. So possibly reacting to some food or drink.
I too get this, I have been putting it down to trapped wind or possibly adhesions after a complicated Cholycystectomy. I recently had a barium enema x-ray and I was found to have diverticular disease and was advised to drink 8 glasses of water a day as well as my usual tea and coffee. It has helped a bit but takes some doing.
If you are experiencing pain then I think you should visit your GP.
I get this & over time have had colonoscopy, endoscopy & a scan. Nothing showed up which could be responsible for the pain. I have been diagnosed with diverticular disease, IBS & had a period of gastritis too. The pain is gnawing at times but wears off after some weeks only to reoccur. I know it's nothing sinister but don't like not finding out what's happening! Am a few days in to the FODMAP diet, hoping that will be the answer to some of my gut problems. Hope you get some answers for yourself.
What is the Fodmap diet. I am having a bad day with tummy pains and feeling sickly. I have been okay for 3 days - I had some multi seed bread and don't know whether this has contributed to the pain in my tummy. I am new to this IBS condition so need to know what to eat and what not to or is it an individual thing?
I get a pain for years now under my left boob and around to my ribs. I can also move (under) the middle of my boobs and down to my belly button.
Have scans and all the rest. everything looks good but im still having pain even after doing the fodmap ( which sadly didnt work for me) made me a lot worse and now reintroducing food back which isnt great.
i have just put the pain down to my ibs (m) (and so as my dr) but it has got worse over the last couple of years.
I am seeking answers but it just maybe one of the side effects for ibs and my other illness
Such is life but a life without that pain would make everything else more manageable you no,
One day at a time i say... onwards and upwards
Hi pjsadek, IBS does seem to vary from person to person & can cause varying symptoms from bloating, pain, cramps, constipation, diarrhoea or alternating between the two. FODMAP is an acronym, deriving from "Fermentable, Oligo-, Di-, Mono-saccharides And Polyols". The restriction of these FODMAPs from the diet has been found to have a beneficial effect for some sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome. The low FODMAP diet was developed at Monash University in Australia. If you want to try it, do so with guidance from a FODMAP trained dietician. Your GP can refer you, but do rule out other causes before trying it. It is a sort of elimination diet to find which foods bother you.
