Hi there,

I came across this protein weight gainer, and wondered if anyone has tried it? Thoughts? FODMAP friendly?

myprotein.com/sports-nutrit...

It's expensive so I thought I'd ask fellow 'ibs' sufferers and fodmappers about yr experiences.

Really need to put some weight on...nothing fits me and I refuse to buy new smaller clothes...that would be like accepting this new weight...and I don't:-(

Hi ibsr,

Followed your link with interest as I too have a problem keeping my weight up with FODMAPs. I dont know what to say about this product as it doesn't give a list of actual ingredients, does it? I notice that it contains glutamine which is a beneficial stomach enzyme, but I think the best thing you could do would be to contact the manufacturer and ask for a content breakdown.

Ingredients

Tapered Night Protein Blend (Milk Protein Concentrate*, Whey Protein Concentrate*, Whey Protein Isolate*, Egg White Powder), Glutamine, Cocoa Powder (chocolate flavours only), HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyric acid), Flavouring (flavoured options only), Sweetener (Sucralose® [flavoured options only]), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Colourings (Curcumin [banana flavour only], Beetroot Red [strawberry cream flavour only]). *From Milk

It has dairy, soy, sweeteners so don't think it's ideal for you

Maybe a better option?

Thanks Pagan and Therapist.

I was thinking the one without flavouring and sucrose would be ok, but your option looks much better...it doesn't say anything about 'putting on weight', though I guess high protein will do that anyway regardless?

Hi ibsr, protein supplements are to help gain muscle mass and good for healthy weight gain if used properly. However in my professional opinion I would suggest a gut healing program/candida clearing program first as a lot of people with IBS are underweight due to leaky gut and all it's associated symptoms. With this the body is unable to properly absorb the nutrients it requires

Oh...thanks Therapist. What do you mean by gut healing/ candida clearing? I have been on FODMAPS since February ( with a couple of lapses). Is that enough? I had thought of probiotics but got put off from the labelling and not knowing what would irritate my insides or not especially as anything with sugar or sweeteners seems to give me the most pain.

Yes your diet is very important so sounds like you're doing well. Perhaps adding omega oils and some glutamine would benefit too. Hope this helps
