venesections over the long term
I was diagnosed with PV in January 21 when I was being treated for a malignant melanoma and the surgeon wanted to do a lymph node biopsy. my red blood cell count at that time was around 0.8. The cancer was removed and I have had a large number of venesections since then. Originally two per week

Venesection and NAFLD and serum ferritin
If
venesection
is actually effective then given the infrastructure for blood donation is so extensive in the uk it will turn out to be one of the most cost effective treatments ever!

Very HAPPY 😊
Finally my platelets dropped to 411 & HCT 0.451 (15/07 before
venesection
). Today I had a telephone consult and my platelets have dropped again to 388 & HCT 0.444. I am continuing on 90mcg of Pegasys weekly and going to try venesections every 8 weeks.

Newbie with PV and questions!
No
venesection
though, Haematologist says it would cause my white blood cells to rise even more in response. I was a bit surprised as from what I've read it's the go-to treatment. Has anyone else not been given
venesection
because of this?

First Haematology appointment today
First
venesection
next Monday afternoon. Give plenty of info , introduced to Haematology Nurse and given a phone number to ring. Two venesectionsto be done at Norfolk and Norwich, then any further can be done at a smaller hospital nearer to us. Recorded the whole thing and made notes.

My last

Polycythemia Vera
All I get told is the
venesection
will control the illness and to manage my fatigue ! My issue is that I work full time , I cannot afford to stop or just take days off when im so tired I can barely drive. I feel useless most of the month and worry this effects my marriage.

starting on Interferon
hi everyone I’ve been diagnosed with PV 6 years ago and am 57. I live in Uk and have been managing blood levels with a baby aspirin and venesections. Last year my white blood has started consistently rising. My haematologist has suggested I go onto 45 mic Pegasus starting in October. She’s asked

Slightly disconcerting review
Four hours later than scheduled, my haem called to say that she thought I’d benefit from a
venesection
and that I should also increase my weekly PEG dose, before realising that I have ET, not PV.

High ferritin post transplant
My results were all ok except for my ferritin, which at 3000, the Dr said was on the high side and booked me in for
venesection
once a month for the next 3 months. When I asked why that might be she said it was due to all the blood transfusions I'd had prior to, during and post SCT.

Venesections making me feel worse.
Beginning to dread my next blood test as I think k I will need a
venesection
. I have a review with my consultant tomorrow and will be discussing this. Just wondering of anyone else has the same. I think from what I read, most folk feeling better after venesections.

Frustrated
Hello, Over two years ago i was referred to hospital after a routine blood test suggested i have PV. I had all the tests including a BMB. The biopsy was not definitive and i was JAK2 negative. However, the consultant then and to this day, says the test are suggestive of PV. As it stands, the consultants

Effect of stress on PV
I’m on daily Hydroxy and aspirin with the odd
venesection
and generally my condition is stable. The last couple of weeks I’ve been under a lot of stress and I feel as unwell today as I did pre diagnosis. Could this be caused by the stress?
