Wednesday's Word

responder........ Right now the criteria used is that the patients' alkaline phosphatase result is LESS than 1.67 times the upper limits of normal and the bilirubin results are less than one time the upper limits of normal. I know this can be very confusing.

ALT can be elevated in both non responders to
Urso
and overlap diseases. When the ALT is significantly elevated, it always warrants investigation by your doctor. It can also occur from toxic effects of some drugs (i.e. Rifampicin).

Joint/Muscle Pain
i have been experiencing this ever since I began my
Urso
journey three months ago. I am wondering if it takes longer than this to adjust? I have no other real issues with it. I have taken moderate amounts of Tylenol, but it really is not doing much, if anything.

So….because I was suffering from lower back pain (not sure if it is from PBC,
URSO
or an injury just before diagnosis!), i could not play Pickleball over the winter months. Instead, i decided to really invest my time into my fiddle.

Stronger sense of taste on Urso
Has anyone here noticed a stronger sense of taste whilst taking
Urso
? Specifically sweet and salty tastes seem much stronger since I have been taking them.

Seladelpar update
By that I mean that for some reason someone was not responding to or not able to take
Urso
. 40% of patients are failed by
Urso
. Cymabay, the pharma who manufacturers Seladelpar, is completely committed to work on drugs for PBC patients.

Immune suppression caused by Urso
Hi all, I only recently learned that
Urso
has suppressive effects on the immune system. One research paper I read, and there are others, lists the effects - apologies for scientific jargon!

urso / stomach issues
hi friends, I have been taking
urso
for a year. In the past month I have experienced stomach issues. Has anyone else taken
urso
for a while and then developed stomach issues after a good bit of time? Thanks for any feedback.

Possible Sjogren’s
I was diagnosed with PBC in 2005 and have been on
URSO
since diagnosis. No significant change in my PBC in all these years. Also, have Hashimoto’s 2016, and Oral Lichen Planus 2021. Recently, I was in the ER because I developed a speech issue. My family thought it was a stroke.

Wednesday Words
It is used as a marker of the disease statis and when to begin treatment with
Urso
. Certainly the lower the number the better. Right now, as of 2023, the ideal targets are under 217. Hopefully in the near future the target number will be under 130.

Don't Underestimate Yourself
Will the
Urso
work? Will I itch? Will I become fatigued? Will my disease get worse? What will my next lab results be? Even before diagnosis perhaps you were already faced with other challenges with your physical health, your job, your family, or just dealing with overall emotional problems.

Gabapentan/neurotonin
I know it does not cause liver issues and does not react with
URSO
. Has anybody else with PBC taken this as a nerve blocker? I am not home to ask my doctors….

PBC, now cirrhosis
Been on
Urso
for 5 yrs and great. In 2021 my ALT was slightly out of range but ignored by the specialist. GP flagged it up January 2023 and I had an ultrasound just showed enlarged spleen. Fibroscan in April jumped from stage one to bottom of stage four.

We understand....
I have been on
Urso
since 1985 with little side effects really. This past week the fatigue for me has been a real reminder of what life was like for me prior to transplant. Moving one foot in front of the other has often been a real struggle. I do know how so many of you experience this 'fatigue'.
