Ups & downs again, but back on the up.
Hi everyone, been on that rollercoaster again. Son unfortunately vomited through his tracheotomy last Tuesday whilst his PEG feed was running. He seemed ok but come Thursday all his stats were alarmingly high requiring hospital admission. Diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia & started on strong IV antibiotics

Has this happened to you?
I don’t want a
tracheostomy
. my options are not great. I am curious to know has anyone else had the same experience from having their thyroid removed? Another question.

Perforated duodenal ulcer
He was on a ventilator and then got the
tracheostomy
tube done several days now. It's still hard for him to breathe without the ventilator help. Not able to wean off just yet unfortunately. Suspect it's because of the fluid buildup that's still there.

Possible thyroid removal
They had managed as it was a short operation but said if it had been longer surgery they might have had to do a
tracheostomy
! I also had a port fitted for chemo and the surgeon who did this commented on the size of my thyroid.

How to get medical records?
Hi All - My brother was in ICU and I was the one, who signed the consent for his
tracheostomy
and PEG and the hospital didn't even asked for my ID to make sure I am the sister, let alone asking for POA.

Hi, newbie here
I have no memory of the period from walking into the ambulance to having my
Tracheostomy
removed 4 weeks later. My family have filled in some of the blanks, & I have the scars as evidence.

Pancreatitis with Ventilator + Tracheostomy
He got an eye infection as well as pneumonia from it they decided to do a
tracheostomy
a few days ago. They woke him up 2 days ago as they wanted his eyes to heal before waking him. Yesterday his peep was at 15 and was on 25% oxygen. Today he was on 30% oxygen and the peep was above by 12.

Is stress hard to deal with for others?
I spent a month in the ICU a year ago with severe pneumonia - intubated for almost 2 weeks, then
tracheostomy
. I was told by physicians and nurses that it is a miracle I survived. It took 2 months to relearn to walk and care for myself.

Another difficult time for son but now out the other side.
This spasaming was seen during procedure so only option to maintain sons safety was to give him a
tracheostomy
. We were advised of high risks that procedure might have for son but alternative was one of these spasams could be fatal.

Before the need for a
tracheostomy
arose I did speak to my wife on the phone at which time I was totally convinced that I was in the West Indies the first time and in New Zealand the second time. Now obviously I was wrong and hearing such nonsense from her husband was very upsetting for my wife because

Heart failure and problems weaning off ventilator in icu
Hi all, my brother has been in icu for 3 months. Been through so much after massive heart attack. He has heart failure diagnosis. He was making good progress weaning off tracheotomy, up to 7 hr breathing by himself. Suddenly he can’t even cope for 2/3 minutes! Had angiogram and had 2 new stents. Tried

Moving on from a Tracheostomy
Sorry - another question from me. As it was a slightly different topic, I thought I'd start a new thread. My dad has had a trachy now for just over two weeks, following two weeks fully sedated on a ventilator due to pneumonia. He is much improved and breathing unaided for 36 hours so far. He is also

CPAP oxygen, face masks, ventilators, and
tracheostomy
made it impossible to access my mouth, even if I had the energy to do so. When I was in a coma on ECMO for a month I do not know what happened, but I have a feeling keeping me alive was the priority.
