Your thoughts/experiences please about a change to a high dose of Sotalol (120mg twice a day).
I have just had my 32nd bout of AF this year but could not shift this one myself (by cycling up a hill) so went to A+E. Sheffield A+E are always very accommodating, despite being very busy, and said that I had done the right thing to go in. The Cardiolology Depatment, where I am a patient, advised

Angry following letter to GP from a consultant.
I received the following letter from a consultant-addressed to my GP- following my aborted angiogram of last week. It’s fair to say that since I read it this morning I have had steam coming out of my ears, not to mention chest pains. I would value any feedback and advice how to proceed: “Mr [..] has

Is there an anti arrhythmia drug which doesn't have a side effect of nausea?
Me again. I've stopped taking amiodorane for over 72 hours and most of the nausea has gone. However, the afib symptoms have come back. I am dizzy, breathless and can feel a heart flutter some of the time. I had a phone call this morning with a date for a cardioversion but when I said that I

Red patches on elbows caused by heart medication?
I’ve noticed a large red patch, slightly raised, on one elbow (outside) and a much less noticeable pinkish one on the other. I rubbed some witch hazel on it which seemed to have made it even redder. It doesn’t itch and might have been there for a few weeks without my noticing it When I googled for

Stopping Sotalol suddenly
I had my first episode of AF last December and I think I have had one since which lasted a couple of hours but by the time I could get it checked I was back in sinus rhythm. Bisoprolol didn't suit me so I was put on 40mg Sotalol twice a day. However my blood pressure and heart rate is quite low so

Amiodarone
My EP is suggesting that I try amiodarone. My history is of 3 ablations, 2016, 2018, 2020. Last one finally touched up the scars that had “failed” - so the afib seems to be gone. But they couldn’t trigger my tachycardia during the ablation. And annoyingly, the tachycardia is much more frequent (daily

Eight and a half weeks post ablation
Thanks for all the well wishers after my cryo-ablation at Stoke. The first 3 days were fine with just a few palpitations. The next two weeks were a nightmare with 5 visits to Burton Queen's A & E with heart rates varying between 170 and 75. Increasing volumes of Bisoprolol and then Sotalol were prescribed

Ablation update
Just a not so quick update on my ablation. First, thank you all for your moral support leading up to this, not sure I would have been in a fit state without you all. Well, the best news is that I am still here! No apparent mishaps and feeling ok. I was sent home the same night so all good. I don’t feel

Sotalol increase
I have been on sotalol 40mg twice per day for almost 2 years. I have been having about 2 to 3 episodes of fast afib lasting around 35 - 48 hours. My EP initially told me to take an extra tablet if this happens, however after seeing him yesterday he says I am on a low dose and he wants me to now take

Sotalol tolerance
Hi All Approx 4 months in to permanent AF (nothing prior!) and due for DCCV in the next few weeks. Various cocktails of drugs tried and have been on 160mg Sotalol + 125mg Digoxin as best rate control (rhythm still bad) for some weeks but EP wants to move me to 320mg Sotalol (no Digoxin) prior to and

Magnesium and afib
About a year ago, few months after being diagnosed with afib and cardiac arrest, thanks to this wonderful forum, I became a gluten free vegetarian, stopped alcohol and increased my magnesium with eating more nuts and rasberries. I have been afib free since, except for when I stopped my betablocker sotalol

INR levels fluctuate on a daily basis
Morning all. Haven't been on here for an age. Very quick and short history lesson about me. Mechanical AVR, aortic reconstruction and single bypass in 01/2021. Obviously wafarin for life. Self tester with home kit since December 21. My question is when I test my INR levels can change from one day to

Back in Afib
I'm devastated. My last episode of afib was back in January which was triggered by the gastrogaffin and resulting diarrhoea I had while preparing for CT colonoscopy. I really thought I would stay free for a while as I come to terms with being diagnosed with PMR. Problem is this episode and the last one

4 months follow-up after Cryoablation for Paroxysmal Afib
It's been 4 months since I had my cryoablation, after which the EP indicated that he thought I was in the 80% success rate. Well, so far, it's been pretty good. No more episodes of paroxysmal A-fib, nor any other odd or unique sensations around my heart. During my post ablation follow-up with my EP

Sotalol v Bisoprolol
My GP recently decided to discontinue my beta-blocker from 2 x 2.5 bisoprolol and take 1 x 50mg sotalol instead. (This decision was following an ICD firing) I had been taking the bisoprolol for the last ten years and monitoring my BP with a cuff device, where my BP had always shown a borderline normal

A/Fib and Diabetes
Hi there everyone. Long story short diagnosed with A Fib and on Sotalol twice daily [40mg dose]. Is there or does anyone else have type 2 diabetes [recent diagnosis after blood test/hypos] any connection between both of these. I also have Chronic Lymphocytic Thyroiditis and just wondered if they are

Morning arrhythmia for a few hours
I had a second ablation for AF and flutter in May 2021 which was deemed a success. After the first six months things settled and did not record any more AF on my Kardia. Was on Flecainide then. I have low bp, am 65 and am currently taking only Bisoprolol 1.25mg on waking. I have chronic nausea since

A bit of moral support needed - a virtual hug?!
I have a history of PAF, with one ablation back in 2016 but it has been quite well controlled with medication (albeit I don't welcome the side effects!) But I have now been in AF since 14 February this year following surgery to remove a tumour on my lower eye lid. I didn't have a GA but nonetheless

Coughing and breathing problems with medication
Hi my husband was diagnosed with AF last September and put on Bisoprosol, saw an EP privately in February after a few a few episodes and was put on Sotalol no Bisoprosol. Had to come off that due to side effects so put on Flecainide unfortunately he should have been put on Bisoprosol with this but it
