Red patches on elbows caused by heart medication?

I’ve noticed a large red patch, slightly raised, on one elbow (outside) and a much less noticeable pinkish one on the other. I rubbed some witch hazel on it which seemed to have made it even redder. It doesn’t itch and might have been there for a few weeks without my noticing it When I googled for info I found pictures of eczema and psoriasis which looked a bit similar. However, I thought psoriasis was something which appeared by the time you are 25 or so, which I am well past. I haven’t had anything like it before. I did wonder if medications like Apixaban or Sotalol could have caused this and if anyone had experience of anything similar. Also any tips to get rid of such things would be welcome.

Sounds like psoriasis or maybe eczema like you say. I've had similar and the dermatologist gave me a topical steroid cream. If it's on your elbow, you will probably need rx strength not what they sell over the counter. See a dermatologist and they will fix you up. Meanwhile don't put pressure on it because that is how it may have started. I believe psoriasis can start as late as your 40s or 50's and yes it could've been caused by the Solatol or any beta blocker.

Thanks for the reply. I bought an ordinary emollient cream today but will, as you say, need to contact the GP on Monday. Is it something which the cream will sort out effectively?

Hopefully yes, however if it doesn't or new patches start to appear, you will want to see a dermatologist, not just a gp. Emollient good for now. Meanwhile, You might ask your pharmacist for something stronger until you see the gp. There could be many courses not just the Solatol. Does anyone you're related to have psoriasis? Often runs in families.

Nobody so far as I know. And I thought 67 would be too old to get it!

Maybe just pressure from resting/pushing on the elbows. I got large red patches, not really raised though, on my arms, consulted my GP, had blood tests and was even referred to a consultant (not taken up as results were normal). The patches eventually disappeared. I now take care not to put pressure on when getting out of the bath or doing my exercises etc. My only drug is Flecainide.

Bob mentioned pressure too. I will have to watch for this.

If you sit with your elbows on the arm of your chair then this could well be the start of pressure sores. If so change you habits and use Dermol cream on the affected areas. (my wife was a carer and warned me about this. )
