I often stay in my room to avoid conversations with my dad. I get immense anxiety whenever he’s home. I’m 27 years old, and it’s been like this longer than I’d like to admit. If he’s home when I walk through the door, I barely say hello. I don’t know why I’m like this. I can’t seem to stop.

He has speech delay and Selective Mutism due to severe anxiety. His anxiety is definitely the root problem which stops him from doing things like talking in certain situations and when it comes to using the toilet.

Also, as far as I understand what selective mutism is, I believe I have that as well, especially when meltdown is coming on and after. When I was about to go for my ADHD evaluation, I asked the doctor if this assessment would pick ip on autism as well, and she said “yes.”

I struggle with verbal communication and have selective mutism (mainly in new situations) but I’m finding myself closing off more around people that I know because I cannot deal with social situations.
