Upper airway obstruction on spirometry?
So I have had a history of rhinitis/polyps for the past 14 years, it is treated with daily nasal steroids/(drops if bad) and an antihistamine- though all allergy tests have been negative. About 2 months ago (after a period of anxiety it so happens) I had been using the steroid drops and started to

Asthma and hay fever
Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. I suffer from mild asthma, and my only trigger seems to be tree pollen induced hay fever. My hay fever is at its worst this time of year. This year, my hay fever has been particularly bad so far, which in turn is triggering my asthma. For the last couple

NHS medication requested from GP surgery
I expect we all have repeat scripts showing when we can request regular medication, and when it was last issued, the date we can request more, and date when review is due. Most of my items were due for review on Thursday 2 March 2023. However nothing has happened, except with my antibiotic Azithromycin

Thanks to you all
Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who replied to my previous post about my partner being diagnosed with emphysema. I spoke to a wonderful specialist nurse called Liz over the phone yesterday who reaffirmed a lot of what had been said. We spoke to his GP over the phone this morning and

Sudden onset poorly controlled asthma
Hi, Sorry it’s a bit of a long story but I am feeling rather lost with what has happened. I was absolutely fine until November maybe odd tight chest and shortness of breath but this could have been anxiety. I am now on GINA step 4 and still poorly controlled. I am waiting to see the specialist, the

You are what you breath - but what you breath varies...
MY reason for writing this is one or two people liked my answers about the strange world of breathing. I am not a clinician, nor a scientist so beware taking me literally. However some things are self-evident dear Watson. We breath in a mixture of oxygen (20%) , nitrogen (79%) and a tiny amount

Is Trimbow ok for Bronchiectasis
Hi,I've been on salbutamol and anora elipta powder inhalers for a few years, but my bronchiectasis is getting worse. I also have mild COPD. The respiratory consultant i saw in 2014 said my bronchiectasis was likely caused by having reflux since my 20s. I'm in my 50s now. I used to smoke, hence the

Changing from MDIs to DPIs for the environment
It concerns me when I read up the plans to change to dry powder inhalers (DPIs) that the patient's voice and experience seems not to be included in the discussion. I am all for being more environmentally friendly, but at what cost to at least some patients? 1. In 2019 I was swapped from Symbicort,

*Long post* alert 📢 So, about 5/6 hours after the consultant told me on Monday that my asthma's fine because it hasn't flared since September, my body decided to prove him wrong and I've spent a week having constant mini - and one not so mini - asthma attacks. I started steroids and antibiotics from

My daughter is constantly in and out of ED unable to breath with asthma and stridor she is currently on steroids and doxycycline
My daughter has a long history of problems related to her breathing when she gets to the emergency department she has 100% oxygen yet she is struggling with a tight chest this sometimes turns into stridor which after having nebs seems to go after about an hour. Doctors often say its anxiety that causes

Salbutamol inhaler
I suffer from IBS with constipation and regularly experience cramp in my rectum (it feels like I need to pass a motion but can't). The other night I was so desperate that I contacted NHS 111. The nurse who called me back listened and then suggested that a Salbutamol inhaler might help. Fortunately

Hi all, Apologize in advance for length of this post. I've had RLS for since my early 40s and spent about 14 years on DA drugs. A not unusual story with augmentation and switching over to pregabalin about 3 years ago- but the pregabalin not being entirely effective for symptoms. At that time I was

Emotion, asthma and the full moon
I have been gasping for air and reaching for salbutamol this morning. I guess there is nothing unusual in that ! Do my fellow asthmatics believe there is a connection between stress and asthma, between anxiety and asthma, and between emotion and asthma ? Have my fellow coughers noted any connection

5 Year old with asthma
Hello all. My son is 5 years old (6 in February) and was diagnosed with asthma 3 years ago. He was a very normal healthy baby boy. When he was age 2 he started getting sick literally every single day after he ate any type of food. For a year they gave him steroids and he gained a lot of weight. At age
