My first visit to the EP
He said there were two options that he recommended. (1) Start on
Propafenone
(RYTHMOL) 150mg 3 times a day. He said it will not cure the AF but it might prevent it. He said if it does not or if the side effects are to bad we go to option number two.

propafenone burning side effect
I am taking
Propafenone
150mg twice daily for Atrial Tachycardia and i have some horrible side effects. Does anyone else have a burning feeling over their whole body. This has just started after 4 weeks on
Propafenone
, when the doctor told me to take an extra 75 mg at 2.00 pm.

Vagal AF
without heart disease (lone AF) Preferentially nocturnal, during rest, after eating or drinking Preceded by bradycardia Lower ventricular response rate during AF Aggravation by beta blocker and/or digoxin Digoxin, verapamil, sotalol, and flecainide are poor choices Disopyramide and quinidine better

Following a recent lively discussion here about costs of ablation etc this link is fascinating for stats geeks!
I looked up the cost of
Propafenone
which I take daily, wondering if it is more cost-effective to have an ablation!

Ablation now in the rear view mirror
He did switch me from
propafenone
to flecainide, and it seems to have calmed down some. It is very disconcerting to come out feeling worse than when you went in! Now it's a waiting game and a practice in patience and good self care.

Flashing lights . . .
I am on Xarelto 20, Bisprolol 2.5 with
Propafenone
150 as a PIP. So I took two
Propafenone
- it takes that to make any difference (if I wasn't in AF at the beginning of the episode, I certainly was by then - all that adrenaline!) as I didn't want to be kept in to be put back into SR.

Hair loss
I have been taking Rivaroxaban,
Propafenone
and Diltiazem for over a year and the only difference is that the Diltiazem dose has been halved, 240mg to 120. I thought maybe the improved circulation as a result had encouraged my hair to 'moult' like birds do in August!

important job interview in 2 hours time just into AF!
Since changing from Flecainide to
Propafenone
in May, the benefit was temporary and now having episodes almost every other day and on Saturday had 4 over 24 hours period! So hoping that this episode will be over within 2 hours, but I'm not going to be at by best for interview even it does stop.

Is there a happy ending for AF?
Last Friday I was put on
Propafenone
but I couldn't tolerate it, I can't seem to tolerate any antiarrythmimics (like Flecainide) at all and now my Cardiologist is talking about the possibility of a PM. Is this the only solution I have?

Re-jigging medication!
I have paroxysmal AF and take Arythmol (
Propafenone
) 150mg three times a day. Has anyone tried lessening the dose unsupervised? I haven't had a serious episode for about 18 months, just occasional 'blips' a couple of times a month.

My question is I have now been discharged from hospital with a 300mg dose of
propafenone
to take if I go back into fast AF to try and stop a hospital admission. Has anyone used this medication like 'A pill in the pocket' before.

DIGOXIN
After being on
Propafenone
for just 48 hrs went into supraventricular trachycardia (yet again) I was admitted to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for 3 days observation. The
Propafenone
was stopped and was given the choice between the drug Digoxin or an ablation. I choose to give Digoxin a try.
