Postpartum psychosis

My son is 3 years old and very soon after he was born, I was diagnosed with post partum psychosis and depression. I was extremely fortunate that I was already on the radar during the pregnancy due to some other factors, and that my midwife and partner spotted I wasn't myself once my son was born.

My little girl will be 6 when our second baby is born. I haven't ever spoken to our little girl about being ill after her being born. I suppose this is a bit of a longwinded post. But just hoping people might be able to give me some positive stories with second babies where they didn't have psychosis

She had what we know now was a post partum psychosis within 24hrs of giving birth. We also now realise that the extreme anxiety she experienced after her first child was probably also a psychosis, and she has had on and off mild mental health issues since her teenage years.

Four weeks later my partner was admitted to a mother and baby unit as a medical emergency and has been initially diagnosed with Post partum psychosis. Initially she was convinced the baby had been swapped and wasn’t actually ours, she even thought I was in on the conspiracy.

I'm 5 years on from my Post- Partum Psychosis episode. I'm having an awfully tough time mentally and physically. My son has lived with his dad for nearly 3 years now due to my mental health never stabilising after ppp.

I am starting to believe that my post partum psychosis forced me to press pause on [blow up actually] a life that desperately needed redirecting.

Hello, I experienced severe post partum psychosis. I was hospitalized for 2 months my daughters first year of life and it took me years and many many hours in therapy and on medication to recover. My daughter is now seven and we’ve adopted our son and I’m starting to titrate off of medication.

My wife has finally been given medication for her post partum psychosis, her behaviour was getting quite strange at times and it gradually got worse over time.

So I had my PP back in 2023. My daughter is now 14 months. Luckily I’ve stayed well this whole time and I’m off the antipsychotics now.
