Confused regarding peak flow measurements for asthma.
Hello, Which peak flow measurement would the Doctor or Nurse use to confirm a diagnosis, is it the highest reading (p.m) over a period of time or the lowest reading (a.m). I always thought it was the one that you puffed out on. Hope the community can help. Thanks

Allergic asthma
Hello I hope everyone is well and coping with the winter weather? I posted in this forum back in July as I had a very bad asthma flare up that was causing a lot of confusion. Since the warm summer months came in, I started waking up every night with bad asthma episodes that could last from 30mins

Hi. I’m new here, looking in at the recommendation of the Asthma UK helpline nurse. I’ve had asthma for most of my 58 years, but in the past 12 months things have deteriorated quite substantially, with 8 or 9 ambulances, multiple chest infections, gallons of salbutamol and several bucketfuls of prednisolone

Huge stomach due to meds?
I have a history of allergies but not asthma but was diagnosed with asthma at age 50, after a suspected asthma attack in August (due to an allergic reaction to dust + high pollution levels) and ended up in A&E for a few hours. I was given prednisolone for a week and prescribed the daily brown inhaler

Hi. I've had a flare up of inflammation and was truly struggling. Hospital gave me steroid tablets and sent me home as oxygen was ok and peak flow was at 225. I have now taken the tablets three times and have been in bed for two days straight. Though I feel less pressure my peak flow is still at

My quality of life has been on a rapid decline.. hoping someone can help.
I am 27 years old, a year ago happy and healthy until after a bike ride, the day after I had trouble breathing. After months of this getting worse and worse I finally was diagnosed with LPR (Silent Reflux) and started taking Ezomeprazole which for a period got it under control. I then started having

Peak flow - is there an average / age ?
Hello, After a 10mn appointment, my GP told me I have asthma, and gave me a prescription for Ventolin and Steroids ("to take until the end of my life"). So far I have refused to use any drugs long term until I get a more thorough investigation. So far my only symptoms are being prone to colds/flu/chest

Confused and annoyed
Hi, I have had Asthma since I was a child. I had no symptoms for a very long time, then 6 months ago following a bad time with hayfever I was put back onto Salbutamol inhaler and then onto a steriod inhaler (flutiform). I have increased my steriod inhaler over the last few months and am on the maximum

Asthma newbie diagnosis
Hi guys, I am Paula and I am 26 years old. So it looks like my GP is going to try to diagnose because he suspects I might have asthma. I had quite some respiratory issues during my life, but at 18 (I am 26 now) I started smoking and it seemed to help until two years ago, when I started to feel worse

Travelling tomorrow and might have chest infection?
I am going on holiday tomorrow (always seem to be ill when going away lately). I've just got over a sore throat that I had for 2.5 weeks. It gave me a lot of clear mucus. Since Thursday/Friday I've started to cough, and now I am coughing up a bit of yellow-ish phlegm, but not loads. I am not breathless

Something new to worry about?
Bronchiectasis and asthma have been great since giving up work 18 months ago - not one infection - yayyyyy. Asthma is caused by allergens but so well controlled only flares when an infection sets in, but something is shifting. We are at our clean air country place this week and breathing has been slightly

Peak Flow Charts
Can anyone please tell me where I can find a peak flow chart to print out as I need to record my daily tests and I cannot find one.

Not sure if I have asthma or not?
Hi all, I've been to see various chest specialists over the years and have been on inhaled steroids over the past 10 years or so. When I was a child I was awakened in the night by profound breathlessness. This reoccurred on various occasions. I consulted my GP who measured my peak flow which I understand

Lowered Corticosteroid dosage, how long to wait if symptoms worsen?
Hi all, I had my Relvar dosage halved by the nurse as I was feeling quite well controlled. It has only been 24 hours and I’m making a lot of mucus, which hasn’t been a problem for months. The chest also feels noticably heavier and I have to take more breaths when talking to people. My peak flow has hardly

Able to exercise, but readings so low, Don't understand.
Wow, during my wifit plus exercising this morning I managed to complete 1 hours exercise which included 24 minutes of running ( 8 x 3 minutes ) whilst holding a conversation with my wife, my peak heart rate was 141 bpm, I didn't feel breathless at all and felt l could have carried on if my legs held
