Natural desiccated thyroid (NDT)

My GP is sympathetic but is prohibited by the local Clinical Commissioning Group from prescribing NDT.

Prior to this latest bood test, I thought a trial of NDT might be the answer to my symptoms. So I went into the Dr's appointment armed with my research, ready to (politely, but firmly) argue my case and request a trial of NDT.

So does anyone know of any endos who would prescribe NDT.. (private message only please ❤️) I'm prepared to travel 👍

I’d hoped going on NDT would relieve fibro symptoms and generally help me feel better, and give me more energy, but despite latest test results I don’t feel that much different. Certainly no lessening of what I assume is fibro pain. TSH. O.005 (0.27-4.2) …. disappearing!

Hi everyone, Following my recent test results in which my T3 levels had dropped (with no change of dose) and meeting with an endocrinologist who insisted everything was 'optimal' (although only just within range) I would like to explore either adding T3 or switching to NDT.

Can anyone send me (via private message, do not reply here please) recommendations for a private endocrinologist who has a record of prescribing NDT or T3 and won't baulk at suppressed TSH. Does such a specialist even exist?

Despite a normal TSH, treatment with NDT, T3, and a gluten-free diet significantly improved my health. My thyroid nearly returned to normal size, and nodules reduced. Currently, I manage my condition with minimal T3 (0,0625 mg and 2 x Metavive II (Porcine).

They said most PCOS patients seem to do best on t3 mono or NDT and after trying so hard to get on with levo its negatives far outweigh any positives for me at any dose. It just sucks IMO! Is it worth giving t3 only a PROPER try now I’m 3 weeks free of levo?

I'm on NDT. Concerned more w T3 than w T4. But if you have something to say about either, please let me know. Thank you. How long for T3 to peak and how long does it stay your system? 😌 please and I appreciate any knowledge!

Test results from 19Dec23, NDT taken about 4-5 hours prior) : TSH 0.75 (0.27 - 4.20) FT4 12.4 (12 - 22) FT3 4.6 (3.1 - 6.8) I’d love to know what’s going on :)

I am not seeing any improvement and have been more depressed and tearful since starting NDT. I am due to speak to a practice nurse at the Thyroid Clinic tomorrow. Apologies there is a lot to take in! Thank you in advance.

I’m thinking of using the medical negligence phrase as a last resort if they won’t/can’t prescribe NDT for me, but don’t want to go in all guns blazing! I’ve learned so much here about other optimum levels so I will try and get some help/understanding with my ferritin level too if I can.

I’m on low dose NDT with Dr Frey and have thyroid nodules (biopsy tested benign) Tested positive for h pylori via a breath test in October and was offered quadruple abx therapy.

My temperature is high & I'm taking paracetamol for that.My question is, should I alter my T4/NDT dose? I haven't been ill at all since I started on thyroid meds in 2015. I wondered if I should increase, decrease or stay the same? Thanks

Taking 60mg NDT before bed, 30mg morning and 30mg afternoon.

I wondered if anyone know how the T4 in NDT works. Each grain contains about 38/39 T4 but does it works the same as Levo i.e. taking weeks to work? I am now starting back on NDT with no thyroid and a very low FT3 and I am thinking of adding some T3 to it until the T4 in the grains start to work.

Hello, When doing blood tests while on NDT, when is the best time to do them? And when should the last dose of NDT should be the previous day? For reference, I take half a dose at 4 AM and half at 12 PM. I have the blood test scheduled at my GP at 8:15 AM.

Never really had any allergies or sensititivies throughout most of my life until recent years but with the above in mind I often wonder whether Levothyroxine is no longer right for me and whether NDT or something else would be.

I read on here about people being on NDT, I’ve never tried it or been offered it. How do you go about trying to get a trial? It’s obviously an Endo route but are they even receptive to this as an option if you ask?

Just wondered if anyone has ended up on 25 mcg Levo only (no T3 or NDT) as an ongoing, not starter dose? Just had my bloods back (below) and my TSH remains low and T3 high despite dropping from 75 to 50 Levo 3 months ago.
