"Unspecified Attention Disorder"-- is this "real" ADHD?
Hi all, In brief, I sought treatment for depressive episodes about a year ago, and after a few months meeting with the psychiatrist, an ADHD packet, etc, he gave a diagnosis of "Unspecified Attention Deficit Disorder; Unspecified Depressive Disorder", and started me on
Methylphenidate
.

Taste Changes?
Since starting stimulant medication (
methylphenidate
) in February, I notice my son has had aversions to foods he previously liked. Initially I thought it was just the appetite suppression that he didn’t want to eat.

HT/ADT "Brain fog"
Last thing I need, so started 20 mg
methylphenidate
about a year ago with great results. Clear head, snappy reasoning from roughly 0500-1100 before the cotton reoccupied my skull. Sharp now 'til late afternoon since starting the BIRM. Nous Defions Crabcrusher

Still here, still struggling. A mother's tears.
He was on
methylphenidate
and Vyvanse and both did not work for him. He has a 504 on file and I let the teachers know and for the most part they honor it. His grades in a few of his classes, math and science have not been good. I cringe when I open Power school.

Post traumatic confusion
He had been on
methylphenidate
which made him very agitated and restless and he shouted and screamed a lot. I believe as did some of the nurses that the medication was bringing about some of these behaviours.

I can’t take it anymore :(
We have an appointment tomorrow, but slowly I am loosing faith that we will find the right medication :( He tried Metadate, Concerta, Adderal,
Methylphenidate
, Guanfacine and Vyvance. All with initial ok, and then fiasco. This time is the worst. I am fighting inside . I cry.

A rare win
Since starting
methylphenidate
we have been seeing more high points lately and I wanted to share that because my last post was pretty self-pitying and pessimistic. Last night my son had a big (for second grade!) part in his school musical. I have to say I was fairly surprised he got the part.

Am I the only one? I've become the type of parent that I said I've never become! Argh!
We tried
methylphenidate
and Vyvanse, but both made him very sick and didn't help. he is now in the 9th grade and doing pretty decent for the most part, but missing assignments and things like that. He recently had a 504 put in place and I hope that helps. Well, about that parent thing.

New to ADD meds but need to switch
Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover the generic Concerta 36mg
METHYLPHENIDATE
HYDROCHLORIDE so it costs $209 a month since we have a very high deductible.

Starting the frustration roller coaster ride
Anyone out there had good then bad results with
methylphenidate
and have any suggestions as to what we should try next. I do understand everyone reacts differently to all medications. Just looking for experiences.

Am I too dependent on medication?
I currently take the generic of Ritalin LA ( IC
Methylphenidate
ER LA), 30 mg, twice a day (once in the morning and once about 8 or 9 hours later). It became such a habit that I didn't question it much until my late teens/early 20s.

Methylphenidate SR (extended release Ritalin) How long until I know if it works?
(I insisted on all of the mental health testing before I sought out a psychiatrist) I tried 10mg
methylphenidate
IR 3x a day but it only made me sleepy and irritable. And left me feeling yucky the rest of the day.
