Is Long-Term Antithyroid Use the Best Treatment for Graves Disease?
This is a three-way chat among endos about long-term treatment of Graves using
methimazole
(effectively the same as carbimazole). Interesting the way they say that the 18 to 24 month "standard" period of treatment was based on assumption.

Pharmacist changing Graves disease medication methimazole brand without notifying my doctor or myself and made me sick!
Hello fellow Graves suffers I am new here and have a big question about our medication the American Thyroid Association wrote And this is word for word that Thyroid disease is a lifelong therapy and is best managed with consistent and precise treatment with the same brand of thyroid hormone. What should I do?
My latest labs were drawn on 02/02/2022 and are as follows: TSH 9.31 (.465-4.68) T4 .54 (.78-2.19) T3 3.7 (2.8-5.3) I had been on 5 mg
Methimazole
since early December. I saw an NP and I think she's a fairly new graduate.

Hyperthyroidism and yellow stools and light brown stools
Sorry for gross information but does anyone else with hyperthyroidism have yellow stools and pain on left side - I’m on 20 mg
methimazole
per day - worried what may be causing this or if it’s part of hyperthyroidism.

CKD Diagnosis: Normal Cystatin C, but Abnormal Creatinine
I have Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism), but it's under control via
methimazole
and vitamin D3. As part of my routine labs for this, I do have kidney function tested. And over the last few years, there's been a declining trend in eGFR based on creatinine levels. BUT... every other test is normal.

Need help understanding Graves
She's taking
methimazole
, 5mg twice weekly and that is all. TSH 0.879 (0.360 - 3.740) FT4 0.99 (0.73 - 1.84) FT3 3.5 (1.8 - 4.2) TRAb 7.34 (0.0 - 1.75) Is it possible that her FT4 is too low and that is why she feels so unwell? Or is it her antibodies that are doing it?

Pharmacological significance of extra-oral taste receptors
In fact, substances such as dextromethorphan, chloroquine,
methimazole
and probably glimepiride, being agonists of TAS2Rs, lead to these effects. TAS2Rs and taste 1 receptors (TAS1R2/3) are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR).

TSI rising on methimazole
But I've been on
methimazole
for 2.5 weeks. I feel like my TSI should be going down... i feel so defeated. Like I'll never get better. Anyone deal with this?

THIONAMIDE-INDUCED AGRANULOCYTOSIS: A RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF 36 PATIENTS WITH HYPERTHYROIDISM
Methimazole
was prone to causing more serious agranulocytosis than propylthiouracil. High thyroid hormone was unlikely to play a role in the ADR. Patient education is important. Keywords: agranulocytosis; antithyroid drug; hyperthyroidism;
methimazole
; propylthiouracil.
