Hello Everyone, I'm new to the group. I joined this group to find support and to feel fine with the daily struggles and challenges. I have a 8-years boy with ADHD and ODD. He just got diagnosed last year, and thanks God his specialist told us that we came at the right timing. He is on Methylphenidate now 5mg twice a day, and we are thinking to increase it to 10mg once a day to start it with the winter break. can any one of you who experienced same changes give a general idea about it. I'm worried of ups and downs he will face with the medication changes.
We also started Guanfacine with half tablet of 1mg. I noticed some irritability and mood swing specially in the morning.

Welcome! I have found this forum to be a kind and welcoming space with lots of parents with great insights So glad you’re here! I like your doctor’s approach—slow introduction of meds and small amounts. When our child has had difficulties with medication, dropping the dosage and only very slowly inching upwards smoothed the way. Guanfacine can be very helpful for emotional regulation. Focalin for focus and impulse control. We liked the combination more than just the stimulant alone. We also started with a 1/2 tab of guanfacine in the morning and once sleeping well with that, added another 1/2 tab in the afternoon. Unlike the stimulant, it takes a bit to adjust to. Fingers crossed that the combination works for your kiddo!
